After months of countless leaks, Nintendo has finally lifted the curtain on the highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch.

In a short teaser trailer we are given a brief look the new system unsurprisingly titled the Nintendo Switch 2. We also get a glimpse at a new Mario Kart game running on the system and confirmation of backwards compatilbility with Nintendo Switch software and game cards.

We also see the new joycons being pushed along like a traditional computer mouse, further fueling the rumor that the joycons will support a "mouse mode".

Alongside the new trailer, a Nintendo Direct focused on Switch 2 has also been announced for April 2nd.

I called it a dumb idea then and I am calling it a dumb idea now. Nintendo has always strayed from calling their systems with numbers, the fact that they are doing it now shows that they've moved in a different direction. I am just adding that as more reasons to dislike the current Nintendo.

Yeah I had to watch it a second time to realize it had Nintendo Direct 4/2/2025 like wtf really couldn't just give a launch date this way people can start pre-ordering and they can see if they can meet the demand, they are really dragging their feet with it . Well fingers crossed they have a crazy bunch of launch games unlike year 1 for Switch

I wonder how many up-coming games will be exclusive, and how many will launch on both systems. Looking at Metroid Prime 4, mostly.

So much for my prediction of them staying silent until the(ir end of) fiscal year as some method of maximizing sales.

Granted, the dwindling supply of jailbreak-able units is definitely a thing to concern with for the present unit. For now, my only reason to pre-order is to keep a launch unit in storage until the inevitable jailbreaks start being possible.

Well, I'm a big fan since I was a kid, I'm pretty happy with the actual switch.

But I gotta say, that was the most underwhelming reveal teaser I have ever seen. And what the hell was that music? Kinda lame.

But I'm sure they will not disappoint, they have always had very good systems. Just wish the company had a bit more soul, like they used to. Don't like this president at all.

I wonder how much effort (if any) they'll put into the backwards compatible games in terms of performance/enhancements. The Xbox has series X enhanced, would be really cool if we got that too. Especially for games such as smash, totk odyssey.

We can kinda achieve that already on the switch with mods + overclock, but some official support would be nice.

Day 1 purchase for me regardless. If metroid is a launch title I will be a very happy man

The switch 2 may have a lot of strategy pc games ports (EU4, HoI4, etc) if the new joycons works like a mouse

Also with no price cuts to Switch 1 it makes me think Nintendo may be over pricing this system above 399 possibly 459 499 .. I mean they have been milking the family of systems for a while now ... Below the PC handheld /Steam deck but they are in a class to themselves in the console handheld market ... So now the big debate will be so how much will this be? because if it can play Elden Ring in handheld or something of this nature . Nintendo is doing something they haven't done since the GameCube and that's had solid hardware so what's that worth to people $$$$

In the trailer it mentions something about compatibility not being 100%. Interested in knowing more about that..

Of course the internals are the most important, but something about the design; the weird controller accents, the rounded dock, it all looks unappealing and unprofessional, much like a fan made case design. I’d take the original or OLED design any day, I think they look a lot classier.

What the hellllll, why is all the crazy stuff happening when I'm asleep or away doing something. It looks just as underwhelming as the leaks said it was going to be too. Well now to see if I buy this thing in the next... 2 years. Until something interesting is shown, my money is allocated to better things. But hey that backwards compatibility appears to be there and that MIGHT just get me to buy it.
