Good news to all existing (and possibly soon to be) 3DS owners, the messaging system will be up for download on December 22 for EU (and possibly other regions) absolutely free! Before Christmas as well!

Nintendo Letter Box (Nintendo, free) — The 3DS finally gets its messaging application with Nintendo Letter Box, to be called Swapnote in North America. Send photos, sounds and 2D or 3D pictures and notes to your friends via SpotPass or StreetPass, all for free.

It's between the friend list, so I doubt that'll happen.

I'd sure hope so. It would be a BIG mistake for Nintendo to not-include that kind of functionality.

YES. Basically, it's Pictochat with online features. You can also send pics and audio messages with it. LOL A 3DS SKYPE. YAAAAAAAAAY! The 3DS just keeps getting better and better.
