just saw this on maxconsole

The first real 'no solder' Wii Modchip - Drivekey?

Apparently, the Drivekey is the first ever Wii modchip that does not require any soldering. It works by interfacing with the DVD ROM IC cable and reportedly requires no soldering at any stage.

quote:

Drivekey iis a plug-and-play solderless solution for ALL
current wii drives. It has region overrride features (USA/JAP/PAL/KOR),
works with both Wii and GC games, including titles like Super Mario
Galaxy and SSBB. It is currently in production and will start shipping
next week. Full features and specifications will be announced on the
website soon. I have attached a picture of a handsoldered prototype used
for testing!

thanks for the heads up im suprised wii devices are only just starting to use ribbon connectors considering how long ago it was done on the saturn this chip offers the chance of a nice clean install

very true, this your next chip to install wiisel?

it's obviously going to be super, with advanced stuff like wiikey2 etc..

Looks like this is the first FLATMII clone, although it obviously only performs the passthrough function and doesn't have the USB / drive emulation.

ill see what it has to offer so far there's only one chip that's offering more and that's not looking too good at the moment.
I do like the thought that i could mount this outside and fiddle with the jumpers

Slowking said over at wiinewz that it would be limited to 3x speed. Since what it probably does is translate DVD-video calls to DVD-game calls.

Yeah, they totally cloned a product, in 2 or 3 days

This has been in Development for months

looks like a nice product. would be the one i would go with.

if flatmii would offer the disc emulation functionality and the modchip-feature of this one flatmii would be perfect.

No need to be a sarcastic smart ass. I said it looks like a clone of 1/2 of the FLATMII's functionality. Who said it was created in 2 or 3 days? I thought the FLATMII could do this in COMBO mode but apparently I was wrong. Either way they are just doing the same thing, intercepting drive commands on the ribbon cable and altering them. The FLATMII people should have included this functionality indeed. Perhaps they still can?

Aw that's a pity.

am gonna go for a FlatMii to be honest, only for the fact that am gonna try and attach it to one of the USB ports on the back of the console so i can have easy plug and play game loading...but we'll see lol

still nice to see a alternative

Yes, you can't load games from your computer.
This just plugs in between the dvd and the motherboard.

could these chips be exploiting the movie dvd support in the drive firmware?
why weren't they available before?
OzModChips:
What about flatmii, is it running like modchips that has support 6x reading?

ps: my point is, exploiting the dvd bug in hardware should be really easy... these chips emerging all of a sudden make me wonder...
