Well, as the thread title says, I need to send my WiiU to Nintendo for repairs.
I had the basic homebrew stuff installed (homebrew channel, and the necessary cios to play emulators and usb loaders).

So, as the problem seems to be a hard drive issue, I previously formatted the wiiU to try to fix it, and it seems that it erased all homebrew stuff, as the "virtual wii" is acting like normal again and there isn't any saved data of homebrew stuff.

My question here is... Will nintendo be able to tell that I had homebrew installed? If that's not the case, how do you recommend me to proceed?

Thanks in advance. Have a good say!

Nintendo can still tell if you tampered with vWii, but they do not always check.
also, the CIOS is still installed, all the format did was delete any channels, which happened to include the homebrew channel and any other channels.
what you need to do is to reinstall the homebrew channel, delete any CIOS's (I am not exactly sure what the best way to do that is on vWii), then format system memory again.
now send it in and hope they do not check.

Thanks for your answer, i'll check into that.
I guess I can "overwrite" cios with MMM or something like that, but I'm kinda noob with this and I wouldn't know what to delete and overwrite.

If anyone can point me to a guide, I'll greatly appreciate it.

So, as the problem seems to be a hard drive issue,

There is no hard drive in a Wii U, just a NAND.

And yes, some people do say corrupting the NAND is the only way to be sure to not get caught by Nintendo when you send it in for repair. I don't know if they are right or not, as I've never had to send a hacked system to Nintendo (or any system to Nintendo for that matter) just saying that it's a common enough belief.

If they do detect you had it hacked, they will not just refuse to fix it for free (if that's what they were even going to do) they will most likely refuse to fix it at all, even for a fee. They'll just send it back to you, with a form letter.

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

@BigOnYa, Then i think people were talking about fallout 76
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    that one was buggy too
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
