R4 can use 4GB cards but only if they are standard. they do exist but they are pretty hard to get hold of. 4GB SDHC cards wont work though everyones right about that. lol

Ok last test before a final release:

This is in a friend's computer with lower specs, writing directly in the microSD card:
(different regional settings, in case you wonder about the "," instead of "." in the log info, it's not a fake)

Roms: 3x128 MB, 1x64 MB

It all depends on your preferences. There's loads of homebrew for the DS not just games. I recently got a 2GB so I could fit my NDS/GBA/GBC/SNES/NES roms on it.

Writing to the microsd? try doing it on the harddisk first, then move the file to the sd
