Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a remake of MGS3: Snake Eater for the PS2. The visuals are improved a bit and a number of features such as a camouflage system that uses the 3DS's camera were added. The control scheme has also been changed to more closely mirror that of Peace Walker and MGS4 with the addition of crouch walking, first-person mode and new camera controls.

Other control schemes: Circle Pad Pro

The Circle Pad Pro is an add-on for the 3DS that adds a second circle-pad to the system. It allows for players to control the camera with the second circle pad while moving Snake with the first one. The CPP uses a single AAA battery and connects to the 3DS via infrared connection. It costs $20 and in North America, is available only at Gamestop.

Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater is set during the Cold War of the 60s, and sees series hero Snake infiltrating the Soviet jungle to bring back a scientist being held against his will. Starting on the outskirts of a military base, the player must use Snake's stealth skills along with the foliage and shade that the jungle offers as cover to infiltrate unseen. As the game progresses, old faces make unwelcome appearances and a series of terrifying boss characters must be defeated before leading up to a dramatic twist that brings Snake face to face with a key figure from his past.

Edge - 8/10

Packed with detail, both in terms of it's environments and mechanics, this is a game that pays back investment in spades. MGS3 is a modern classic - the tightest, smartest and most emotional journey in the series - and even the HD update doesn't look as good as this portable treatment.

Nintendo Power - 9/10

A phenomenal game. Almost nothing was sacrificed in bringing the title to the Nintendo 3DS; from the opening scene to the powerful ending, every character model and every bit of excellent voice acting is intact, and the production values are sky-high. [March 2012, p.80]

Cheat Code Central - 4.7/5

The whole experience of playing Snake Eater 3D is one that proves that handheld gaming isn't dead, and is instead adapting to new markets. Snake Eater 3D is doing things on the 3DS platform that haven't been done before, and I hope this is a trend that continues. There's a longstanding idea in the gaming industry that no one can develop for Nintendo platforms better than Nintendo, but this game definitely defies that notion. Snake Eater 3D is easily one of the top games for the system, and even if you've never played a Metal Gear Solid game before, Snake Eater 3D is one that is easy to jump into for a newbie.

Gamespot - 8.0/10

Snake Eater 3D is an excellent treatment of a justifiable classic. The story and characters hold up nearly a decade after their introduction, and the improvements to stealth mechanics enhance the entire experience. It's modern enough to appeal to a new audience, and the improvements should draw a lot of series veterans back into the jungle. The 3D is some of the best on the system so far, and the mature tone is a welcome addition to the family-friendly nature that permeates Nintendo's catalog. The game even makes excellent use of the 3DS hardware while avoiding the perils of tacking on new features for the sake of variety. It's an incredibly successful upgrade to an already fantastic game and is easily one of the best games available for the 3DS to date.

Hmm, I've been reading some opinions of people who have the game, there's added shaders in this version that aren't present in the HD collection, could that be the reason why edge has said it's looks better than the HD collection, also this games shines in some parts compared to the original. The graphics were fine in the demo, however the controls were my main issue, no gyro aiming is a real disappointment. Guess I need a ccp when I pick this game up.

I have to say, I wasn't keen on the demo. I'm not sure if not having the circle pad pro was the problem, but I couldn't really get the hang of the controls. For Metal Gear games, I much prefer the playing style of Twin Snakes. I might dust off my NES and play Snake's Revenge :ha:

I'm very confused. The demo was, to be honest, really bad. And word is the issues go unadressed in the final version. And yet it's lauded by reviewers. Nintendo and Konami don't pay the reviewers that much cash, do they?

Edit: Oi soulx. You have Snake's image linking to Solid Snake's wikia page. MGS3 features Naked Snake or Big Boss, not Solid.

More like Naked Snake/Big Boss (same person).

Anyway you should fix it a fan of the series notices right away and somebody new to the series can get confused

I won't be getting this at launch simply because I haven't completed MGS1 (at Sniper Wolf) and 2, yet. Once I beat them, I'll purchase this. Hopefully, it'll be in the bargain-bin or something by then!

Almost done MGS (past the helicopter fight). After that, it's MGS2 PC (which hopefully isn't too long) and then Snake Eater 3D. MGS4 and Peacewalker can wait until I get a PS3.

Can't wait to buy the game tomorrow!
Be sure to post your impressions here!

Finally got an appointment with an ENT, but it's not for another month. It's already been 4- days of loud ringing in my left ear, substantial pain on left side of my neck and left side on the back of my head. Doctors here at the regular clinic put me on a couple different meds for a month that did absolutely nothing, then they told me there's nothing more they can do for me despite being in pain and my ear sounding like im underwater and ringing.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Then three chiropractor appointments which also didn't help at all so i didn't go to the 4th. Been trying to get ahold of this ENT clinic out of town for a week and finally got an appointment set up. But its not til the 17th of July so I have to suffer all this shit for nearly another month.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
I hope relief from all of this is on the way because I've felt so defeated and severaly lacking in sleep because of the pain and ringing.
