What is the difference between booting Sysnand and booting sysnand with Emunand firm?

Emunand is written on SD card, you can brick emunand and have no affect on sysnand. Other than that, there is no difference.

srry for reviving this but how do you differentiate between the two ?
i don't know if i am on sysnand or luma

If it says sys in the System Settings you are on sysNAND and if it says emu you're on emuNAND. You'll be running Luma either way.
