Today, Nintendo said they would buy the company that manages the distribution of their products in Japan, for a total of $46.5 million, and will become a subsidiary of the gaming giant. This will allow the company to manage all of the distribution which happens within the said subsidiary.
Nintendo also explains that this commitment will "strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Nintendo group and increase its corporate value."

JESNET is to officially become a subsidiary on the 3rd of April 2017.

"JESNET and AJIOKA have been the largest-scale companies dedicated to handling Nintendo products in Japan for many years, selling mainly video game systems through their nation-wide distribution network" ~ Nintendo's board of directors

Neat! Does this mean they get more control over the manufacturing of their hardware and where it goes after it's completed?

For a second there is I thought it would be the other way around. I still don't see the advantage from doing this but that's probably one of these things where we won't see its benefit till later on.

Does this mean they can manage hardware sales across the globe instead of having, for example, Bergsala AS do it in Nordic countries? Because I'm tired of that.

Well, it could, most likely, make distribution cheaper and in turn make products cheaper. Maybe only saving little, but still saving.

In short... if you thought Nintendo eShop sales were bad already... this just means that Nintendo will be charging full launch price for their systems well after they stopped making games for them, to try and create some perceived value or something.

This is for Japan only, people. This means they will rely only on themselves regarding distribution. The article is quite clear on that. And of course they will save. They will buy a well oiled machine, it's businesses (I don't think JESNET and AIOKA have Nintendo as it's only client).

Of course, they will make more money. As long as they keep or make jobs, that's fine.

Think I'm talking about Sony and Microsoft?

Who needs free online or standard and inexpensive memory cards?
