Updates: playing game backups is possible by opening them in developer mode: researcher tested

What are the practical advantages of doing this over just using a PC? AFAIK being able to pirate Rare Replay is the only one.

If you're comparing to "just doing it on a PC" that's a pretty high bar for any console hacking. So far this basically just gives to access to dev mode with a bit more control and without paying the fee...so not really much advantage even over dev mode for regular users but opens up some interesting things to poke around and play with for devs and maybe more useful in the future.

yes but Microsoft will not be pleased as free developer mode means you can just run downloaded ROMs and not pay for real games or just play dumped Xbox one games downloaded from online in dev mode

Good thing I think is that we can preserve exclusives like halo 5 FM5 FH2 rare reply and a few others

So, any update about whether the new xbox firmware updates are compatible with the hack or not? So that I know whether to update my Xbox or not.

Did you even click the link? It's said in there which firmware is supported.

Originally it was thought that only one was supported, then it was discovered that the two after it, which were the current firmwares at the time of the update, were supported too. There are new firmwares, but we still haven't gotten any confirmation about whether they are or aren't supported. There has been no " I can confirm that this firmware patches the exploit" post of any kind. So the ones in the link are the ones tested, and we still don't know about the newer ones' viability, which is what I was asking about.

As far as we know it's atleast patched in the newest firmwares

The kernel exploit was fixed in firmware 10.0.25398.4910

It only works for 25398.4478, 25398.4908, and 25398.4909.

If you are on or under an exploitable firmware but do not have gamescript. Stay there and wait for a new entrypoint. If you are on 4910 or newer, a new kernel exploit must be found.

Assuming all game backups will be playable there are quite a few Xbox 360 and original Xbox games not found on PC.

First not everyone has a gaming PC, but even those that do if all backups end up playable there are quite a few Xbox 360/original Xbox exclusives not on PC as well as other Xbox One exclusives like Halo 5, Forza 5 and a few others not many.

Things are getting interesting, some of the games that were dumped with the dump game exploit can be played natively on the PC.

If I am now on an older version, can I update to 25398.4909 with a USB stick?
And then will the exploit work?
You need something called Osu1. But you need to find the osu1 for that specific version. Maybe someone knows where to get it.
