Issue with ultrawide monitors?

I have an AOC CU34G2XP Ultrawide monitor and when using my Switch 1, I would set the mode to 27''W (16:9) and the image would be centred, with black bars either side - but it was not stretched.
I just set up my Switch 2 and noticed if I output 4k, it will always force it to fill the monitor, no matter what mode I set my monitor to. This means that it is stretching the image across the monitor.

If I set the output to 1080p, I don't get this issue.

Has anyone else experienced this on an ultrawide and is there something I'm missing?

I have an ultra wide monitor and when the switch is docked and set to 4k or 1440p, it doesn't stretch the image for me. Black bars are on the sides.

It's likely because your monitor's resolution is 3440x1440.

4k = 3840x2160, so you can't just scale down like you can with 1080p and get black bars, your monitor physically doesn't have enough pixels to do scaled down 4k.

Either use 1440p or buy a new monitor.

Yeah I'm not buying a new monitor, but I did see that mine does support 1440p (2560x1440) yet it's greyed out in system settings on the switch. (seems to be a bug with the system from what I can find)

It's not a big deal, I just went to 1080p and it's how I want it now.

In my case, with a Samsung G8 Ultrawide 1440p, having the monitor in 'standard' mode seems to disable 1440p in the S2's settings; I can choose 1080p with a standard 16:9 ratio, or 4K with it stretched across the screen.

If I enable Gaming Mode, 1440p is the highest selectable resolution, and other features like 120Hz and HDR work as expected.

Unfortunately I have no idea if there's a similar trick or fix for AOC monitors.

Yeah I've read about that with Samsung ones, I will definitely have to try enabling Game Mode on my monitor when I'm home.
