I tried it yesterday and Link would just slip off it. Is there any way at all?

I do it every time i play to "run" faster.
When I seen we could do that to rocks or several other element, i tried over tree and i seen it fly away and was woa and after several fail attempt I though it was impossible and someone here confirmed it to be possible :P
So I continued and once you get right leaf you can make it fast and easy :)
