Decent soldering iron would set you back about 50 USD, the components are cheap tho, like I said before.
But you do need to have some soldering skills, otherwise pay someone to do it for you.

Don't know about the slim, but the rol on a phat is on the rf board which just clips on with 3 black screws. Maybe install it yourself, if you don't have soldering skills, send the board to someone. $50-100 is a ripoff.

If you plan on learning to solder then there are better ways to get started (e.g. a cheap ebay kit or old unused PCBs) since it's easy to mess up, however, it is a useful skill to have if you're into this kind of thing and there are guides on Youtube like Adrians Digital Basement and Bigclivedotcom.

Looking around though, you may not need to actually solder anything depending on the specific mod, you may be able to get away with something like heat shrink connectors.

Although for someone starting, it may be best just to get someone else to do it if you can.
