Hacking How do I update my R4i Gold 3ds ?

How do I update my R4i Gold 3ds? It's the one from http://www.r4ids.cn/.

I've tried updating it directly through my 3DS, but it hasn't gotten past the "Connecting" stage. I've also downloaded the most recent firmware update from the r4ids.cn website, but I'm not sure how to install it. Do I just overwrite the files that are on my SD card?

Edit, the file that I downloaded was the V1.49 firmware from http://www.r4ids.cn/...download-e.html

Is there anything else that I need to download?

"Connecting" stage? You should just be able to run the update file like you'd run a game.

And yes you just overwrite the existing files.

The above link mentions a patch and a firmware update. Do I need to download both?

The Wood download is for game compatibility, the upgrade patches are for DSi/3DS update compatibility, so yeah you'll generally do both.

Eek. I just tried updating and it's not working.

My steps:

1. Deleted .rpg folder on sd card, and moved the .rpg folder from the firmware I just downloaded. I then moved and replaced the DS MENU .dat file on the sd card.
2. I moved the V144 patch_NDSL.nds to the micro sd.

It didn't work though. It said "Card Check: Fail". Result "Press KEY-A again".

I then replaced the V144 patch_NDSL.nds with the V144 patch_NDSi.nds and tried again, but that also failed (although it gave me a different message).


My current games work on the R4i, but I'd like to update just so that I can play on the latest 3DS firmware version. My current 3DS version is 3.0.0-6U.





EDIT, I just updated my 3DS to the most recent firmware, and my R4i still works, but I still can't get the patch 'rom' to work (the V144 patch_NDSi.nds). Are the patches the things that improve game stability? I thought they were supposed to be what allowed you to use your flashcard on an updated DS/3DS firmware.

What will happen if I can't get patches to work?

First of all, check the game icon showed on the screen when you power your ds on.

Then decide that it is necessary or not to update your card.

For kernel, you just need download wood r4 v1.49 for r4i gold from www.r4ids.cn and unzip it to the root directory of your tf card.
That's all.

All r4i gold flashcards have been pre-flashed to support the latest system.

as you said you have Dosaru angel
the flashcard is only failing to update due to that it see's no reason to update

the difference between icon 1 and icon 2 was just a hardware revision

im sure the next update will bring the 2 different hardwares to be the same

so you have no worries until the next 3DS firmware update
so just keep an eye for when it needs a firmware update

Wood updates are posted on the fron tpage and its normally 12 hours till the r4ids.cn team release there update on the website

There is no need to update your card. Just download wood r4 v1.49 do your tf card and download the roms to your tf card.That's all.Just enjoy yourself.
