I heard it can not use the 1.5 kernel. So that would hinder its homebrew capabilities(if its true)
I heard that too.

I thought it wouldn't matter, because many people use a custom firmware anyway... But I don't know much about it.

I was planning to buy a PSP Slim for the homebrew and TV-out. If it doesn't support homebrew though...

Compatibility isn't that bad. Most of the stuff I want it to is already working, and people are already trying to get everything else working.

Here's a video showing some of it working:
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=73691
Includes a list of what was tested.

I know I just saw another, more recent and complete list a day or two ago, and now I can't find it.

Team M33 provided an SDK that developers of homebrew can use to update their programs to work with the Slim's CFW. It's simply a matter of the developers getting up and tweaking their programs with the SDK, some fans of certain homebrew apps have even tweaked the homebrew themselves and released it instead of waiting for the developer.

EDIT: You may want to take a look at this thread from DCemuhttp://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=73691http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=73691 which features a constantly updated Slim compatibility list.

A version of Snes9xTYL 0.4.2 has just been released which now works on the Slim. It runs fine on mine so I'm pretty happy.

A lot of the good stuff works so no problems with homebrew for me. Rin, ScummVM and Snes9xTYL work so that's about it for me.
