Hi,

I have just started looking into installing Homebrew Chan and a loader on the family's WiiU so that I can remove the Wii and store it in the garage.

Our Wii had been installed to launch Homebrew Chan & CFG (Configurable USB Loader) so as to access fat32 HD with Wii and Gamecube (DiosMios) iso images. The HD can easily be read from a computer and does not need a special app to manage game transfers. That worked pretty well. i was told not to try anything with Triforce (i believe that's what it is called).

Anyway, I did not event know until today that you could go onto a vWii mode. So I have looked at the turorial from here : http://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-install-cios-on-vwii-backup-nand-and-keys.339890/

Just to make sure, will this install HBC ? What are the risks ? Will I be able to use the same HD that holds both Wii and Gamecube games (I sure don't want to convert it) ? Will triforce be playable as well ?

Last but not least, I had heard (a long long time ago) about a Wiiukey just like the Xk3y, is this still under progress or has this been forgotten about ?

Thanks.

Yes, the tutorial will guide you to install homebrew channel on your wii u. (link at my signature).

You can use the same HDD on the wii u, but some hds need extra power on wii u - not all just some, a "Y" usb cable is enough.

To play triforce games on wii u, you will have to use nintendont (link at my signature) as dios mios does not work on wii u as it lacks os mios.

The Wiikey for wii u was advertised to be shipped on august, but no official news has been seen on their official site.

Thanks for the info. Can Wii + gamecube + Triforce be played from the same HD on the Wii U? I have never tried the Triforce stuff on Wii (the original not he Wii U) as it seemed complicated with CFG & DiosMios (I heard something like adding Triforce would prevent playing Gamecube games).

Before I even start patching the darn thing, how do you switch from Wii U mode to VWii ? I have barely been able to launch MK8 as my kids always boot me out...

"I heard something like adding Triforce would prevent playing Gamecube games" this applies only for the original wii when using dios mios. The triforce replaces dios mios So you can not use both at the same time, unless you use an emunand.

Since you have a Wii u just use Nintendont and it will do everything you want - gamecube plus triforce game in a single HDD.

All right, I finally found the time to install everything (it took something like 5-6 hours to dump the nand and keys).
I used the 'Return of the Jodi' exploit. i don't really understand why I had to create a savegame at first since when I tried to copy the 'exploit' savegame from the SD to the console it told me it could not since one was already there. I deleted the savegame I created from the game and copied over the 'exploit' savegame to the console and it worked fine.

I installed CFG version 75 I believe and connected a HD with a few isos. Since it was late I only tested on Wii game and it worked. So thanks for the great tutorials.

Tonight I'll be testing more games and hopefully Gamecube games as well. Quick question though, how can we use a gamecube gamepad ? if I can't, can we use the WiiU Pro gamepad or either Xbox (the very first one) or Xbox 360 gamepads ?

Since it was really really late I could not look into downloading the covers for the games. I believe it's easy, but if there's a procedure for that, please feel free to give me a few advices.

I have installed Nintendont as well (well I copied it to the SD cars in the apps folder). I haven't tried it yet, but is it required to launch Triforce games or can those be launched from CFG as well ?
What games are supported (I understand they need to be names game.iso) ?

Finally when I extracted the Nintendont package on the SD (in apps), following the tutorial I had to download aloader.dol file and rename it to boot.dol before putting it in the Nintendont folder. Do I need to keep both files in the folder ?

Sorry for asking that many questions but I'm learning and I do not have the dough (not wealthy enough - or too poor would be a far better assumption) to learn the hard way.

Many thanks for your help.

1 - Downloading covers: Since you are using CFG usb Loader - just click on a game and choose download all missing covers, and cfg will download all covers available for your games.

2 - Gamepad support - No you can not use xbox gamepads because they are not hid compatilbe. But the great news is, nintendont started, at version 2.153, to accept wireless gamepads, currently are working: Wii U pro controller, Wiimote + Classic controller Pro and Wiimote + classic controller).
You can also use ps3/ps4 game pads using a usb cable. The full list of working gamepads can be found here under the topic "what gamepads are working"

3 - Triforce games have to be on the same folder as your gamecube games - (a folder called "GAMES" on the root of your usb drive), you can launch them using usb loaders. (the games people enjoy the most are: Mario Kart arcade GP and Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, and few others I can't remember now...)

4 - Nintendont: you just need to place nintendont "boot.dol" in the following folder: Sd:\Apps\nintendont - you just need the "boot.do"l - when a new version gets released just copy the new one and replace it there.

About gamecube games: the new version 2.153 that added bluetooth gamepad compatibility broke a lot of games that were working.
This link is a official compatibility list of games running on nintendont, if you are not sure if a game work or not check it here

For gamecube/nintendont development follow this thread.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Just for my own information, how does CFG know it has to deal with a Triforce game and use it to launch it ? Do I need to setup a path or something ?
I do remember having to download covers this way yes, but are they actually stored onto the SD card or can they be stored on the hard drive ? The SD card I am using is only 2 Gb so with all the apps and stuff on it, I doubt there will be much room for covers.
