Greetings all.

I ask that you forgive me ahead of time if this is something that has been specifically addressed. I know the protocol is to look through the forums first, and I assure you, I have. I've searched every permutation of what it is I'm trying to do, and while I've found a lot of good information, I'm inexperienced enough at this that nothing has made it all "click" for me. So I'm hoping someone would be able to tie it all together for me.

I have a Wii U running CHBC. I have successfully used TeconMoon's Wii U Injector tool to load up Wii and GC backups, and WUP Installer for installing them on the Wii U main menu. That part I have figured out pretty good.

Here's what I can't figure out. How to do the same with my WiiWare backups (or if you even can). Like I said, I've found a lot of information but haven't been able to piece together the whole picture. I'm trying to work it out so that everything can be on one HDD if possible.

Should I be able to do any of these options? And if so, how?

1) Convert the WAD to an ISO or WBFS so that it can be used with TeconMoon's Injector tool to create an installable WUP? (this would be the ideal I think)

2) Install the WAD to regular NAND and use TeconMoon's Injector with the vWii Nand Title Launcher?

3) Install the WAD to EmuNAND on a USB stick (which would have to be separate of my HDD, I guess) and use the vWii Nand Title Launcher for it?

4) Install the WAD to NAND OR EmuNAND and use a Wii U USB Loader GX forwarder to launch the games from the USB stick? (again, would have to be separate of my HDD). So that way I don't have to go into vWii at least?

5) Some other option I don't know about at all?

Any and all help is appreciated. I'm just at my wit's end trying to figure this out.

The only thing you can do with Wiiware as far as the injector is install them to vWii and make forwarders using TeconMoon's Wii VC Injector to forward them to the Wii U menu. So you still have the limitations of the vWii on space and you can only have a handful of them. I think there's a workaround to load them from the sd card but I don't know if it will work with the forwarder. I think there are other ways to load them from vWii menu but not from Wii U menu. You might be able to load them in USB Loader GX and have a USB Loader GX forwarder on the Wii U menu like you said. But there is no such thing as coverting them to ISO or anything like that.

So #2 you can do if you mean install to vWii then forward them yes. There's no way to install them to Wii U directly.

BTW congratulations on being here almost 6 years and having just made your first post. That may be a record.

Hahaha! Yeah, I signed up for some reason or another way back when I first tried to learn some of this stuff, then life/marriage/kid happened and it went to the wayside for a while. Six years huh? Damn.

Any idea where I might find info on that workaround to at least give it a shot with the forwarder?

As far as I know:
1) Convert the WAD to an ISO or WBFS so that it can be used with TeconMoon's Injector tool to create an installable WUP? (this would be the ideal I think)
Not possible.

2) Install the WAD to regular NAND and use TeconMoon's Injector with the vWii Nand Title Launcher?
Possible and probably the best option, with the one thing to note being that the vWii NAND is tiny, so you can really only install a few titles this way. On the upside, you do get GamePad support in compatible titles.

3) Install the WAD to EmuNAND on a USB stick (which would have to be separate of my HDD, I guess) and use the vWii Nand Title Launcher for it?
Not possible, because vWii NAND title launching only launches titles on the actual NAND, not emuNAND. emuNAND requires cIOS, and all Wii VC is running on a special (non-custom) Wii VC IOS which does not support emuNAND.

4) Install the WAD to NAND OR EmuNAND and use a Wii U USB Loader GX forwarder to launch the games from the USB stick? (again, would have to be separate of my HDD). So that way I don't have to go into vWii at least?
Possible, with emuNAND being the best option if you have lots of WiiWare you want to play due to the aforementioned vWii NAND size. You won't get GamePad controls this way, however. It's worth noting that you don't necessarily need to use a separate USB drive/stick for this, you could put your emuNAND on your SD card (the same one you use for Wii U stuff).

5) Some other option I don't know about at all?
There's one other major thing that's possible. If you install a custom IOS (cIOS) 80, you can install WADs to the vWii NAND and then copy them over to an SD card from the vWii Data Management screen. The (v)Wii cannot (officially) play games directly from the SD card, so when you play an SD card game, it gets copied back over to the NAND for you to play it from there. In this way you can have lots of WADs installed "simultaneously", but you'll have massive load times on the SD card games because you're essentially installing the WAD again every time you play them. You can't launch games from the SD card using injections, so you would have to fully go into the vWii to play these. Personally I find this approach almost completely pointless, but many enjoy the convenience of having all their games directly in the vWii System Menu, and that's a totally valid thing to want.

Ultimately, I use a combination of options 2 and 4, with the following breakdown:

Option 2: vWii NAND Installs & Wii VC Injections
- games which have Classic Controller/Wii U GamePad support

Option 4: emuNAND Installs
- games with no Classic Controller/Wii U GamePad support
- games which do support the CC/GamePad but that I just don't like enough to justify "wasting" NAND space on them

Thank you for breaking it down like that, that's awesome. Maybe a little disappointing (option #1 would be great!) but awesome regardless to have an actual path forward.

If you'll permit me a few follow-up questions...

1) Is there a list of which games support the Classic Controller/Wii U Gamepad and which ones don't?

2) Do you know about how many WADs the system nand will hold? (I think I've got, like, 30 WiiWare titles)

3) It seems like Option #4 would probably work best for me overall - especially if I'm able to put them all on the SD card - my big thing is not wanting to have to get up and swap out USB HDDs/Sticks/Whatever. If I were able to leave the Wii U HDD (with all the WiiU/Wii/GC games on it) plugged in and have the WiiWare on an SD, that would be ideal. Would you be able to point me to the right guide to set that up, along with setting up the USB Loader GX forwarder to the Wii U menu?

Really appreciate your help.

1) Is there a list of which games support the Classic Controller/Wii U Gamepad and which ones don't?
I don't think there's a compatibility list anywhere, but this list on Wikipedia should cover all the WiiWare games with Classic Controller support. Not all of these games will necessarily work with GamePad controls (e.g. Contra ReBirth doesn't), but it's a pretty good starting point. Note that some games will work fine with normal Classic Controller emulation in TeconMoon's injector, and some will require the Force Classic Controller option to be enabled.

2) Do you know about how many WADs the system nand will hold? (I think I've got, like, 30 WiiWare titles)
I've got ten WiiWare titles installed on my NAND and there's probably room for about one more as long as I choose a pretty small game. Keep in mind the vWii NAND is also where your Wii saves are stored, so you do want to leave a little bit available.

3) It seems like Option #4 would probably work best for me overall - especially if I'm able to put them all on the SD card - my big thing is not wanting to have to get up and swap out USB HDDs/Sticks/Whatever. This post by Cyan covers how to use USB Loader GX's emuNAND features, and this thread should cover the USB Loader GX forwarder channel.

I have another question that might be related to this and didnt wanna create another post. Are the Wii games downloaded from the WiiU eShop installables with the likes of WUP Installer GX2?

Well my real question if theyre any different from Wii ISOS and if they can be found to download online like the WiiU native games....because I cant find them only for the vWii

Thanks

I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
