Hacking Help converting MKV to dpg w/out losing subtitles

Hey guys, sorry if this is not the write place to post this. more and more animes are being uploaded as mkv nowadays (due to superior quality, and more options i think) but it's a pain. as you know, in order to watch videos on your ds, you must first convert it into avi, then to dpg (to watch on moonshell). however, when you convert mkv to avi, the subtitles are lost >.< does anyone have a solution to this? thanks in advance.

Demux the subtitles and feed them into batchDPG or whatever you are using. You could tweak some of your stuff to force subtitles but I would not suggest it.

The above is command line only for demuxing but there is apparently a GUI (I have not used it however so I can not comment on it):

GUI generally means graphical user interface, the command line version bundled with mkvtoolnix works fine (I use it all the time) but you normally have to find out the name of the stream you want to extract.
Frequently I see posts with people saying they dislike the command line so I thought I would give you the option.

If you can't manage to extract the subtitles into a separate file to use with BatchDPG, try using a program like AllToAVI to convert your file to a *.avi file with the subtitles hardcoded in. I tested it on an episode of Chobits I have, and it worked fine. Very little quality loss and hardcoded subtitles fairly easily.
