Anybody else have these graphical glitches, or know how to fix them?

I just hacked my New 2DS XL, added the latest Twilight Menu, and there are extra glitchy lines below the GBA game display. Any ideas?

(I tried to add a picture but it says I'm spamming)

    It's a TWL_FIRM bug.
I heard it can be fixed by re-loading the game.

Re-loading it by going back to the GBARunner2 menu then loading again?

Also, I'm new to 2DS hacking, would emulation via Retroarch actually be better on a 2DS?

For a 2ds you can use an app called NSUI to make an injection of your rom to be run in agb_firm. This is the most compatible way to run gba roms. With an o2ds this is your best bet since I believe emulators through retroarch don't get full speed on it.

I've now noticed something else a bit odd.

my GBA rom folder has about 170 roms, yet when I launch GBARunner2 only about 1/3rd of the games show up.

Now, I can simply navigate to the rom file and it will play fine but I wonder what causes this. Doesn't seem to be filename length. I wouldn't mind further organizing my GBA roms in alphabetical folders if that'd fix it.

I think there is a limit on how many games show up.

And that would indeed be fixed by putting them in separate folders. I believe the limit is something like 64 items per folder, folders included.

I've noticed that the Prince of Tennis games, Minna no Ouji-Sama (a collection of mini-games with some voiceovers) and Aim at the Victory (a RPG-based tennis game with lots of text, no VO except during fighting, I think) have graphical glitches and bad audio. I'm probably not going to play them though (except for the minigame collection), but the glitches might be related and present in other games that use the same type of programming.

Both games feature background music that's different from what it should be and in MOS there's a crackling/background noise when you hear the VO, so it's hard to understand, and the opening video has lag/freezes. While in AtV the background disappears whenever a person speaks (no VO, just the text appears), so if someone is in a court, for example, once the lines at the text box appears, the court is gone until there is a scene change and it repeats. Actually, I think whenever another character appeared, the background gets restored and then disappears again, but I'd have to test the game again.

What system did you test these on?

For Aim at the Victory, what you describe is similar to what I encountered and described in the compatibility list for DSi/3DS on the latest DSP audio build. For Minna no Ouji-Sama, I tested it quite extensively on the 3DS/DSi and the only problem I got was that it would crash at seemingly random points after playing a while, which is why I was never able to completely beat and finish any of the mini-games.

The Tennis no Ouji-Sama games are a mixed bag. Some run perfectly while some barely run, though the 2003 duo of games that were reported as crashing seem to have been working at some point but I have not tested that myself.

If you have gbatemp wiki edit permission it would be great if you wanted to help with keeping the wikis up to date too. Dodain47 is currently doing a test of all the not-up-to-date ROMs on the DSi/3DS list, though ofc any findings and additions are appreciated.

I forgot to write that, I played on the DS Lite. I have an older build though, from March or April, so it's possible the audio got fixed - I'll test the latest build later. Or it might be that on the Lite it doesn't perform as well. I had the cache ticked on, I think.

With Minna the audio is bad, as is in the Aim at the Victory, however I had no issues with crashes or freezes whatsoever, I played the tetris-like/puzzle game and the ball-collecting one in a single session and I managed to win both and unlock new minigames. I think Minna might've had a freeze if you let the intro sequence play, instead of skipping it before the part where it froze, but I did play it few weeks ago, so it's possible when it froze at that one bit skipping it by pressing START or A would work.

I see. I only think I got the freeze during the "find the right ball with the figure on it" mini-game, but that might well be because I was trying to cheat my way through it by pausing the game with the gbarunner2 ingame menu so I would find the right ball immediately.

There should definetely be improvements or at least changes with the latest build even for DSLite since not all commits made regard only the consoles with DSP.

you can put the roms in separated folders, like sugested. i, for example, put the games in folders by letters. so sonic games are in "S" folder, dragon ball games in "D" folder and so on. just dont overload with too many roms per folder, and you're good.

Alternatively, you could use a different loader with ARGV support, such as TWiLight Menu++ or HBMenu

Does anyone else check this forum multiple times a day hoping beyond hope that Gericom returns from his long slumber?

I check the github page at least once a day. You never know when a update get´s released.
Take a look on his github page. He´s currently working on other stuff.

We would get a notification on the DSi Mode Hacking Discord Server (which also contains a GBARunner2 channel)

Is there a compatibility list for GBARunner? Considering getting a DSi specifically for GBA/DS play but don't know if its worth it.
