why is it limited? cause you cant run roms?

Why is everyone so defensive about other people running ROMs as if the majority of people on this forum are only here because of their ability to?

Anyway, ssspwn doesn't completely open the system as (other console) hacks before it have.

"Fortunately, that should not be a factor in this case, as by its very nature, ssspwn can not by itself allow piracy. That’s right, it’s the sweet spot that gives us just enough to get awesome homebrew code running in arm11 user mode, but not enough to break the system bad enough to let anyone do whatever the hell they want. As such, I personally have no qualms with releasing the exploit into the wild."

i wasnt defensive about about running roms.. was i?

its just that guys seems to turn everything about running roms. some people are happy running just homebrew.

So... my weigh in on this might be a little lacking but here we go:

SSSpwn is the exploit to load homebrew channel similar to bannerbomb and twilighthack previously... the channel itself is NOT a ROM loader, the same as the one for the Wii is NOT a ROM loader. We still have to wait for someone to create one that would allow for ROM loading (if you want that or not is your choice).

That said, SSSpwn is the sweet spot, it is the chink in the armor. What people do with the system after that is what everyone wants to see. The channel runs in usermode but allows for calls to be made to a variety of memory points that could be used for other purposes, including access to elevated privileges.

Currently Gateway allows both ROM and unsigned code (I.E. homebrew), but that is because they have created a slightly different method based off of a FIRM hack that allowed for a custom firmware to be loaded. This does not mean that SSSpwn cannot be adapted to do the same... it just does not do it by default/final (original) build.

Smea is doing this to keep himself out of line of fire, for good reason, and I respect that. I also respect the fact that he was willing to provide something that allows others to MORE.

atm I feel like GW is the only flash card company that are giving us something worth our money. They've been here for almost 2 years now and they had all the reasons to start under a new name and make more money when 2.2b started bricking consoles but they stayed and release a lot of amazing features even if most of their potential clients already had a GW.

If you don't already have Cubic Ninja, I'd say that Gateway is the way to go. Insane hackjobs online selling the game for $100 when you can have the functionality of ssspwn plus more with Gateway for $80... Ridiculous.

Do some reading on wololo.net, very explanatory articles regarding what the difference is between a kernel mode exploit (MSET, CFW, Gateway+clones) and usermode exploit (SSSpwn)

Kernel mode can boot ROMs and userland can boot homebrew. sssPWN will never EVER run ROMs no matter how much one crosses their fingers or prays to their higher being of choice at night. Sorry.

That is, of course, unless a very VERY talented duel skill amateur developer/reverser engineer with very VERY expensive equipment can find a kernel vulnerability and use smealums savegame exploit as an entry point. (A.K.A what the devs call an "privilege escalation")

So yeah, i wouldn't be getting my hopes up and just get a Gateway card so you can get in on all the action.

Huh? Are you so sure? The details of the hack aren't even known yet but it's beyond usermode; and i don't think you need expensive equipment to try and find a kernel exploit anymore. The start of the scene yes neimod (and maybe others) had to dump the RAM now it's not needed. Look at how many system modules the 3DS has, and they continue to add more complexity which means more chance of an exploit.

Not that i'm confident one will be found and released for free by someone these days, cause there's less hackers like Dark_Alex or someone like that around. But saying it like its impossible, thats silly. I'd just get a GW too; look at the fact there's still no fully functioning 4.5 CFW for free out despite GW existing for so long.

GW's upcoming work could well be a kernel exploit, it's not even clear, regardless of the entry point; apparently the game is not the interesting part about this hack according to smea so weird to write it off totally. He deliberately doesn't want to go that far too, so who knows really.

Now that some of the former posts made me think about it... clone cart owners can now run homebrew, and don't need the physical version of Cubic Ninja, for what I've understood.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I heard Gateway doesn't support audio in homebrew, like ssspwn (BlargSnes and 3DNES for example). If that is true, I would prefer ssspwn to run homebrew.

i already have 2 xl's one with the gateway and 1 stock. i love having my systems hacked/flash cards it make it nice to keep my original games safe at home while i take the backups out

I have a question, that I didn't see answered.

Could you just stick Cubic Ninja on the GW card and run the exploit? I don't personally see why you wouldn't be able to, but it's safer to ask than assume.

No one knows yet
