A number of images have appeared online of what is supposedly the PS3 Slim. Sony has declined that such hardware is being produced but they have denied things before which turned out to be true. Check below for a big picture of the supposed slim console (which looks off) and a link to more pictures.

Looks fake to me because there's no way that it can be that flat and still have that circular top and War don't you mean sony aren't capable of making one so early

Seems fake to me. I don't think Sony would make a "slim" version so quickly.

We're going on three years since launch. Makes perfect sense to me, and it might end up coinciding (or facilitating) the much-anticipated price cut. Smaller components aren't the only thing that make a slim system, fewer components do as well, and a "slim model" could simply be their version of the Arcade. No hard drive (and perhaps snipping here and there in one or two other places) would allow them to perhaps sell PS3s somewhere around $250-75, which, in spite of the downgrade, will look a whole lot more appealing to your average retail shopper.

I'm not going to lie, I'd buy one at that price. And I agree, its going on year 3. It took them 3-4 years before they came out with the Slim PS2s and the same with the PSPs so I think its time for it to slim down.

Well it seemed like the Slim PS2 wasn't released until way later on in the PS2s lifetime... I guess I could be wrong.
Hm, no, seems right to me. Especially here in the UK, it's only been out just over two years now. Plus the PS3 already costs them a bunch to make, introducing new hardware will just make it more difficult for them (unless they've found a way to cut costs with it as well).

Again, I wouldn't necessarily look at it as "new" hardware, so much as a different SKU for them. Like the differences between 360's Elite and Arcade models, it would make the system, overall, more accessible and inviting no matter your budget or gaming needs. Sony doesn't yet have an affordable option for your average consumer, and they need one. If they were to put out a new version (regardless of whether that photo is based in reality or not) of the system, I doubt it would be meant to take the place of the current system -- just meant to appeal to more mainstream customers looking for entry into PS3 entertainment.

This thing is probably real... See how soon the PSP3000 came after the PSP2000.

Maybe Sony was offended by all those "HugeStation 3" / "Giant Black Monolith" comments?

And btw, it looks freaking ugly.

If the first PS3 was called the "GrillStation 3", this one should be called the "ToastStation 3"

Saw this on a ps3 forum .... Don't think it will be as thin as the images that are floating around mainly due to needing big heat sinks and fans and sh!t to keep it all cool as it generates a crap load of heat as it is ... shrunk down its still going to get damn hot ... its not like the PS2 that hardly uses any processing power!

Remember the drive will be spinning a lot more with it being BLUERAY so will hotter anyhow!

Just look at that shitty photo of the "so called slim ps3" and also at the font used (PS3)

That just seems to be some chinese PS3 fake.
+1

This post pretty much clears all doubts.
