Let's see...there's voice overs, that's one thing. Also the backgrounds in battle were worked on and look more detailed, I think? And I thought besides the extra dungeon or whatever, there were some scenes/story that never made it into the original game?

And did you read the spoiler, DeMoN?

No I did not read the spoiler because I thought it was an actual spoiler for the game. It'd really help if people stopped abusing the spoiler tags for other purposes.

Well you can change the spoiler title, but I guess no one does that anymore...but anyway, I'm amazed at how many people haven't played FF/do not know that the stories aren't connected...some of my friends who've never played an RPG in their life even know...

This game has already gotten pretty good reviews from websites already. I'll have to play this game when it's released/dumped, so that I can compare it with it's FFIII remake counter-part.
All Final Fantasy games have their own unique plot line. The only games that are either prequels, sequels, and add-on stories are: FFVII:Crisis Core, FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus, FFX-2, FFXII: Reveant (spelling) Wings, the Chocobo Story spin-offs about our favourite little yellow bird ^^

my bros super exited for this. im kinda somewhat., i just hope the story just isn't as bad as III. honestly i cant remember NOTHING about that game even though i played it. well i would be lying i only remember someone stabbing someone and thats it! it was funny actually when i saw it with the cute graphics. other than that i beat the game last year and its not memorable at all.

The story in this game is about 100% better then in FF III there is far more to it and the characters actually are memorable.

This is one of my favorite FF games and is in my top 5 of the main series.

The story in FF games account for about 40% of the gameplay, so that alone will make it better than FF3

about the only things that ties the FF series together:
chocobo's, airships, the name, and cid.

for some reason almost every final fantasy i know has a character called cid.
it's quite clear to me it's a different cid every time, but it's funny to see that name all the time.
FFIII:cid is an old man, and owner of one of the few airships(untill you ram it into a rock)
FFVIIac(movie):cid is a strong guy, probably around 30 years old.(guessing)
FFTA2:cid isn't even human(hume) here i think, tough for the rest he is somewhat like the FFVIIac one.

nah i just tried it with R4 didnt enjoy, hoped 4 might be a little more better

He's messing with you. The only Final Fantasies that are sequels are 10 and 10-2, 12 and Reverent wings.

Even the Ivalic Alliance have little in common with each other.
well there's also the ff7movie (ff7: advent children) and the ff7 rpg/shooter featuring vincent (ff7: dirge of cerberus), awesome game also a sequel

ff12's characters like vaan also appear in FFTA2 I believe

I seriously hope they put the That extra game after where you get to be all of the other characters that you pick up.

do i need to play III to enjoy this?

Yes because after 1, they are all sequels and the story continues where it left off at in the previous version.

oi, if you bought that, you're dumber than a doorknob, each FF game is it's own game except for a select few spinoff titles
You're kidding right? They have nothing to do with each other.

And why is this so much better than FF3? I realize that 4's story is better but the battle engine looks pretty much the same.

You are officially dumber than a doorknob. Congrats

This takes me back to my early years...when did it come out in like 91? I'm pretty sure i did not get to play it until mid 1992 so that would have made me 11 at that time...my how the time flies...all i can say now is that i look forward to replaying this glorious glorious memory filled game for me...JUMP KAIN!!!!!! anywhos..the gf has never played it and well shes going to when it comes out...btw i own the original cartridge of FFIV, FFVI and Chrono Trigger...not to mention my FFVII as well...ahhh the memories..i should in case them in glass for everyone to gaze upon..hehe

I can't wait for it to come out...although the main character's legs do look a little like chopsticks compared to his body when he runs around...

Release Date Tom! Lets all pray for the dump to come out tom =D

(PS: If the rom an't dumped or you can't find it, go cry me a river, cause we an't gonna care)

I'm kinda looking forward to it even though I really don't have the time to play long drawn-out RPG's these days. It gets to the point for me where I play it so rarely that I forget what I was supposed to be doing and give up. I can never play long enough to get truly involved in the game anymore.

Trust me when I say to try to stay young as long as possible. Play as many games as you can now. When you grow up and work for a living and have real-world responsibilities, you won't have time for a lot of gaming anymore.

Well, in the "life continues to kick me in the ass" department, I've gone and fucked up my thumb this weekend. Cut through a nerve and a good chunk of the meat with a utility knife (razor). So 1 wasted weekend and a few stitches later, I now have a useless d-pad thumb. Hooray!

I know I'll get no sympathy at all from Rayder,

but it still bummed me out a little. I guess I'll have to test out whether this version is playable with the stylus only. So sorry for the delay, and on to a few questions.

Anything really noteworthy about the additions? I remember hearing about the standard remake-post-game-dungeon being thrown in there as well as the new abilities, but not much else.Well, the cut-scenes and voice acting are superb. The graphics are a little slow, but great for the DS. The new Decant Ability system really makes you strategize during the game, and the extra bosses in new game+ are quite a challenge. The item rewards for map completion are pretty cool, and overall, it feels like some of the glitches were taken out, and the game is much more solid. So yes, I think there is quite a bit that is noteworthy.

About the new "Devant System". What's it basically about? I know that it's to transfer skills onto other characters, when plot characters HAVE to leave... but are the skills transfered new, specific skills to each character, or the skills that you add onto the character themselves, and want to keep? Also, this "Devant System" can be used whenever you open up the main menu? Or only before a character is about to leave? o.O Hope that didn't sound confusing T_TI'll try to answer, but feel free to follow up if I misunderstood. Decant Abilities are skills that you assign to a specific character. Once you assign them to a character, they are used up and permanently assigned to that character. There are many DA's that you encounter during normal gameplay, and some DA's that are given to you by party characters when they leave your party. There are a fixed number of DA's that you can get during each playthrough.

Most of the time, if you assign DA's to a character that is going to leave eventually, they will give you a better DA when they leave. It sounds a little confusing, but makes more sense after you start playing. This site contains a list of the DA's and how to get them, but be warned, it contains spoilers:

[title:Decant Abilities List]The following link lists the various Decant Abilities in FFIV DS. If you don't know, and don't want to know which characters will join and leave your party, you shouldn't read this list:

http://ff4.wikidot.com/decant-ability
As for the last part of your question, you can access the menu for Decant Abilities at any time, not just when a team member is leaving. Actually, for the most part in this game, you have zero advanced warning when a team member is leaving.

That part is out. Many party members leave permanently. I think the Decant Ability system is supposed to make up for it.

Wow... that seems a little confusing in concept, but hopefully it makes a little more sense in-game. I guess I'll wait till the game is dumped~
Yeah, that explanation is perfect for what I was asking for ^^ Seems logical as a back-up way to substitute perman... OMG THEY LEAVE FOREVER!!! >< Hahaha~
Kay~ Hopefully the system is good and understandable ^^ Yay~ Thanks for the info
