This is a more fleshed out description on how to set up the NTR layeredFS patches by Demifiend:

All right, since there aren't any clear tutorials, is basically what DeathChaos said:

1 - Install NTR CFW 3.3
2 - Choose the folder of the game (FE fates usa) and extract both folders (plugin, castle) on the root of the SD card
3 - Run NTR CFW
4 - And finally, play the game, make sure that you get a "Green screen" before starting the game.

Now, this may fail or not, so you'd want to try it several times until you get it working, you don't have to access "Amiibo" in order to activate it, the units will appear as soon as you enter "My Castle", take advice that these units (Marth, Ike, Lucina, Robin, Anna and that other DLC character) will join you automatically, but you don't get to fight them, a little bit of a bummer, but beggars can't be choosers, they also don't come with their weapons, so no Falchion or Ragnell in here, unless you use a certain cheat program to get them, or you get lucky in that dlc mission (And i'm not sure if those weapons appear in that chapter either...)

Last note, you also have to make sure you are in Ch.16 or beyond, if the "Patched" version doesn't work with you, try to use the original plugin instead.

Through some hex editing we can now give the amiibo units their respective weapons! Thanks julianuf!:

I'm confused on step number 2. Also, I'm using an original 3DS and will NTR CFW 3.4 Preview5 and BootNTR 3.1 work with this?

Ammmmmm...
What I have to do the GameData.bin.lz???
I need a tutorial please...

From what I've understood, you need to download FEAT, drag/drop the file in it, you'll get a GameData.bin (decompressed), then use FEFNighmare and Fe tools to do something... I'm sure for the decompressing part, but not for the other, sorry that I wasn't of much help.

I don't mean to be rude but OP's post is a huge mess, theres many downloads and im unsure which one to download.
I'm using the If Translation Patched Game, which of these downloads im supposed to download, and will i have the accessories and weapons too? If not, is there something i can do to get them?

Man, this thread is a mess. I just started playing Fates and wanted to unlock the amiibo characters. So I come here, expecting to find a detailed tutorial to accomplish this and...I get this. Which is weird, considering this must be something important for o3DS users like me.

Anyway, I downloaded the first file that supposedly unlocks the character as paralogue battles. It's a Gamedata.bin.lz file and have no idea what to do with it.

Can anyone please help me out?

You're better of just using FEFTwiddler to import the amiibo units unless you actually want to participate in the amiibo battles. To use the GameData.bin.lz file, you need CFW and BootNTR Selector installed to use NTR CFW first. Follow http://3ds.guide to get CFW if you are on 11.2 or lower. If you are on 11.3, you'll have to go with the FEFTwiddler method and import the units.

Thanks for the answer. The thread seemed dead and wasn't really expecting for someone to even bother. I have a9lh and luma already installed and I'd really prefer to battle them myself, so I guess I should install BootNTR Selector first then. What should I do after that?

The latest version of FEFT allows you to unlock the battles to battle them.

Don't bother with NTR CFW, if you just want layeredfs, use Luma3DS' new built in layerdfs function, it works like this.

1) Update Luma3DS to version v7.0 or later, (most recent version as of this post is v7.0.5)
2) Completely turn off your 3DS, when booting, hold down Select to access Luma3DS settings, and enable game patching.
3) The structure for Romhacks is sd:/luma/titles/<titleID>/romfs/stuffhere
Here is a visual representation for the USA Special Edition

4) The title ID for Fates are as following, substitute <titleID> from earlier with these numbers (just copy/pates)
USA:
0004000000179400 = BR USA
0004000000179600 = CQ USA
0004000000179800 = SE USA

EUR:
0004000000179500 = BR EUR
0004000000179700 = CQ EUR
000400000017A800 = SE EUR

JPN:
000400000012DC00 = BR JPN
000400000012DD00 = CQ JPN
000400000012DE00 = SE JPN

So for example, if you wanted the European BR version, the directory would be;
sd:/luma/titles/0004000000179500/romfs/stuffhere

5) There is a GameData folder in the download, just go to the titleID directory of your game, and place the GameData folder INSIDE of the romfs folder, and upon booting up the game, if you've enabled Luma3DS game patching, and got the right titleID, it SHOULD work.

This download;
I've changed a few bytes in GameData.bin and made all hero battles available as paralogue: https://mega.nz/#!PANnUSTL!5Xncqqr_GRi_WtxpN-muZEIPxTnI0M2smPXUvxPBLg0

6) Once again, to recalc, here's the exact path you need for each region, inside this romfs folder is where the GameData folder should go.

USA:
sd:/luma/titles/0004000000179400/romfs/ = BR USA
sd:/luma/titles/0004000000179600/romfs/ = CQ USA
sd:/luma/titles/0004000000179800/romfs/ = SE USA

EUR:
sd:/luma/titles/0004000000179500/romfs/ = BR EUR
sd:/luma/titles/0004000000179700/romfs/ = CQ EUR
sd:/luma/titles/000400000017A800/romfs/ = SE EUR

JPN:
sd:/luma/titles/000400000012DC00/romfs/ = BR JPN
sd:/luma/titles/000400000012DD00/romfs/ = CQ JPN
sd:/luma/titles/000400000012DE00/romfs/ = SE JPN

I am new to fe fates hacking, but I only have a payloads folder and a config.bin file in my luma folder. So I only have sd:/luma . I also don't know how to get the rest of the folders/files and title ID. I don't have layerdfs. I don't even know what it is. I am a real newbie :/

My instructions couldn't have been clearer, just make the folders if they don't exist?

    @BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
    You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
