English translation of Ask Iwata book to be released in April

ask.png

Viz Media has locked down a release date for the official English release of Ask Iwata. The book covers topics from Satoru Iwata's career, modeled after his Iwata Asks interviews, with comments by colleagues Shigeru Miyamoto and Shigesato Itoi. There's 176 pages of content to pore over, such as his design philosophies and insights on game development. You'll be able to pick up the book when it launches on April 13th.

Inb4 'ripiwata' comments.

Cool dude.

Nintendo today still has much to thank him for.
Communicative genius. Very skillful programmer
*leers at gamefreak*: Yep, you guys are nothing without him.

My fav interview of his is still the one on KH DDD.
Him and Nomura had a great time when they talked abou "Fighting Nintendogs"

I miss that guy. Despite Nintendo's (many) flaws and some of the mistakes Iwata made, he still did a lot of good for the company. It's not often enough that CEOs actually try to be the face of their companies, let alone with all the passion he put into it. Between that and his ability to bring games out of development hell, I have a lot of respect for the guy.

Unfortunately, I don't really read a lot, so i can't guarantee that I will pick up this book.

Or, you know, loved Iwata.

Considering the book is about him.

True.

I wonder if the books says something about Nintendo failures and screw ups?

For example, while even people today mocks the power glove, who ever remembers the Super Nintendo mouse?

Heck I remember a video promoting the thing, when it came out only a single game worked with it...

And I was like... whatever is the point? A mouse only has two buttons, that's less that the Super Nintendo controller!

Indeed, Iwata's one-of-his-kind. You can really point out when he took over and when he left just like that, and his way of working even rubbed off to other people, like Reggie.

I don't even know who's the current president of Nintendo and if it were not of his name, I think the same would be valid for Doug Bowser.

I'm definitely picking this up as soon as it's available, I'm a big fan of his work as a developer and a company president.

It was really only meant to be used for Mario Paint. Check out the video by the Gaming Historian about Mario Paint, it really, uh, paints a new light on that whole thing!

And it might talk about some of the failures, and Iwata had his failures as well in the company. The difference was how he reacted to them, handled them, and treated his staff and friends.

Finally! Thought it'd never come out after such a huge delay.

Iwata is sorely missed in Nintendo. He made all the difference.

When Nintendo was facing losses from the 3DS launch and Wii U, Iwata cut his own salary instead of making his workers redundant.
HOW many CEOs do that? Place their employees above themselves? Damn few, and Iwata was one of them.
I really respect the guy, for that.

I told my mom about him. she's the one who found the book online. I was first going to check it out at the library, but I kinda wanted to buy it instead, so I decided on that. anyway, the reason you gave is one reason I loved the guy. I do miss Iwata a lot. he made Nintendo look for inviting.
