Okay so I just modded my Wii with the TH, HBC & BL v. 3 Gamma & it was time to burn some ISO's so I got some media to test different results.

I always see that people say DVD-R is the way to go so I purchased Verbatim -R & I had some Memorex -R to test. I also used Fuji DVD+R.

I am using a BENQ 1620 to burn the ISO's & have changed the book type to DVD-ROM when buring with IMGBURN. So far my results have favored the DVD+R when using dvdinfopro to see the quality ouput.

My question is this... Is it okay to use the DVD-R's with mid 80's quality??? I have been getting between 85 - 88% with both -R's.

However with the DVD+R I have been sitting at about 93 - 95%. Anythought???

I know people rave about the DVD-, but I am wondering how many test the quality.

PS - I have burned all discs on 2, 2.4, 4, 6, & 8..... 4x game me the best results for all three media types.

You can get great quality burns with dvd+r but alot of people have problems with their wii reading them. The wii seems the favor dvd-r

thanks for all the testing.

i have around 20 games that I have backed up on memorex -r and have, to date, had zero problems with them. save me from wearing out/tearing up/stepping on, and breaking my originals, but i have yet to burn on a +r.

I hate to start now.

I wonder though, does the Wii have several different internal dvd drives depending on year/when/where you bought the wii itself? and if so, could the different internal drives affect the wii's backuploader compatibilty as far as playing +r/-r better than other drives?

I haven't yet tried COW:waw on my wii yet, but i lent my friend a copy of my rip, to try on his newly twi hack: wiigator 3 gamma wii, and he's played it to the end twice without a single loud noise coming from his drive and absolutely no problems.. burnt on Memorex -r

Lots of people complained this disc made the drive run awful.

i hear ppl say that too, but nary a problem with the Memorex -r's for me.
it depends on the manufacture you get with Memorex really, say you have RITEKF1 manu id? i had slow down after a week with them but then again ritek is known for degrading issues.
but the rest i got were CMC, MAG, AM3 manu id not one problem out of them and all the 15 20 and 50 packs i have picked up around where i live are that manu id only the 5 packs are the ritek.

I think the Wii's drive suddenly sounding irritating has nothing (or at least not much) to do with burned games. Mines started sounding weird half a year ago. Also, Brawl makes it sound far more weird than burned discs...

Cool. Thanks for the opinions..

So I think that the VERB-R is the best for me, but is it cool to use a game with a 85% disk quality as per dvdinfo pro or should I just play it through & see if it errors out???

Thanks for all the quick comments & help much appreciated.

i burned some games yesterday e.g. sonic, tomb raider and so on, on TDK +R and they all work without problems. But COD 5 gave me some headeache. The SP works flawlessly but in MP sometimes it showed an error screen. but to be honest i think its the readspeed of the wii, cod seems to stream some data during gameplay because the drive is constantly working even in MP.

jepp thats what i wanted to say but i think when the +R are booktyped right there is no really problem with them compared to -R as long as they are a good brand. btw NEVER EVER rely on cheap discs für backup of ANYTHING !!! Can`t tell that often enough !

The general consensus seems to be dvd-r's, which is what I use on my PS2. I've tried the following: Maxell (Couldn't boot anything.), Sony (Worked really well, just normal Target bought ones.) and Taiyo Yuden. (Perfect, and cheap if bought in bulk on Amazon.)

if you can get the wii to read a +r disk without changing the book type , then there is a problem with your wii.... as for the -r disk type any brand will do , I say this because I use the cheapest media I can find , and I have a lot of games

OK my results:

ImgBurn AUTO (6X)___ 98.77%___SONY D21_______SONY
Nero 16X____________98.68%___SONY D21_______SONY
Nero 8X_____________96.14%___CMC MAG M01___MEMOREX
Nero 16X_____________98.43%___MCC 004_______VERBATIM

All of them DVD+R, verbatim started to go up and up, and for some time I could see the 99.56% but then at the end of the test, it went down to 98.43%, not bad at all....!!!

I use Memorex -R and every one makes noise I have tried burning x4 and x8 in Nero and ImgBurn didnt make a difference. Every single one works though, load times can be a bit slow as you listen the drive read read read but meh I have a feeling its the drive over the DVDs.

Thing is my retail version of ScarFace makes the same reading noises. I have a Wii from the first release, waited 18 hours in the cold Colorado snow lol (ok it was not snowing but still fookin cold). I never see any one comment on how old their Wii is when referring to the drive noises its kinda annoying as I would like to find out if its a drive issue for sure.

I will test some of my burns with this prog. and edit my post.

Modded Wii
I always use:
- Verbatims DVD+R
- EMTEC DVD+R
- TDK DVD+R

Burn always with:
- BenQ DC DQ60 at 8x
- Pioneer DVR-111D at 8X
- Optiarc AD7191A at 8X

Unmodded Wii (but with Softchip)
I use:
- Verbatims DVD-R
- TDK DVD-R

Burn always with:
- Pioneer DVR-111D at 4X
- Optiarc AD7191A at 4X
(BenQ burns give problems)

Never had a problem.

When i use the -r's on the modded wii, it works without problems
When i use the +R on the unmodded wii with softchip, all -r do work but most +r's have problems (not all)
