Will you guys please stop applying the retarded "custom" moniker to official code with a couple patches? It's pretty devaluating towards custom stuff that people actually make from scratch.

"Ohai, I've got a custom car! Yeah, it has a bumper sticker and I swapped out the radio!"

Actually, if you add a bumper sticker and change the radio, your car is custom... it's the way you like it... no one else in the world will have the bumper sticker in the exact same spot, and the radio is the way you like it... it's CUSTOM...

Just like I have a CUSTOM made G6DS Real... I have a one of a kind menu graphics, no one else in the world has the graphics I have on it. I also bent the one corner (not knowing the screw was there). It's CUSTOM because of a few minor changes... apparently you don't understand the word CUSTOM... and here, your supposed to be the Wii Master Dev...

The patches that people put in to the official code does make it custom, since it's not the same...

Learn what words mean before you spout your High and Mighty mouth off...

Yea, thats what custom cars are.

You buy a default car, the one whose body you like.

Then you customize it.

Leather Heating Seats

Better Engine

Nitrous

Hydraulics (YEAHUZ!)

Neon Lights FTW!

Sound System

TVs

Lets put a giant tail fin on it also!

The car would run exactly the same as it was before but its appearance and features are alot better.

I have a Wii, but I made it custom by dropping it, and putting a big scratch on the side... not really, but it would be custom then!

Even by downloading a VC or WiiWare title, you just made a Wii custom!

changing anything on a stock item that makes it fit your needs better is the exact definition of CUSTOM!

dumbass

I understand where he's coming from though, I don't care for the CSM logo on boot personally. As much as I love having these features, I still like my Wii to look as much like a Wii as possible, without people constantly asking me "woah, what does CSM mean?" once I start the Wii. I'll be turning that logo off as soon as there's an option to.

I'm excited either way though, this is going to a huge milestone for Wii homebrew.

Whilst I agree with what you say, custom doesn't necessarily mean from scratch - that would be alternate (SM/firmware/whatever). Custom is obviously as it says - the original customised.

I think your misunderstanding of the use of the language is to blame. Still, calling it a patch to the SM would be better imo (as starfall does).

Uh, actually yeah, that would be a customized car. Just not very much customzed.

yes, only 1:1 discs will work... no one should still be "patching" which is the wrong word... it was DECRYPTING, open a "patched" disc on your computer, and you can see every file... now do it with a 1:1, and you can't...

I can see it being called a CUSTOM SM if the graphics are changed... which is what For is doing... if all was changed was behind the scenes stuff, I would rather it be called pSM (patched)

I can see where Marcan is comming from, don't get me wrong, but he bitched the wrong way...

Maybe we as a community can come up with a good moniker for this project to help For...

customSM
patchedSM

just like IDeaS (added the I EA to the DS to make a word)

take some letters out, pop some in (pSM/cSM)... make a good moniker to help out For!

So have I understood it correctly if this is basically Starfall on steroids? Just one question though: this ISO251 you speak about, is that cIOS rev7 installed as 251 (instead of standard 249), or is it a whole new IOS to support cSM?

On another note: booting without logo would be excellent, as someone posted earlier; my starfalled Wii boots up in just a few seconds, and I really would like the same snappyness with cSM.
Yes, some of the patches starfall uses are also used in cSM. Crediar will get the appropriate credit for that when I start making releases. Also its the same boot time as as a "Starfalled" system.

That's awesome, great work! I'm really looking forward to this. A few questions - are you using backup launcher 0.3 gamma to load the games from the disc channel? Will we be able to upgrade the backup launcher within the cSM if a newer version (of backup launcher) is released?
The backup launcher is not used when booting from the disc channel, Nintendo's original apploading code is used (which is perfect). The cIOS installed that cSM runs from (ie, IOS251) handles the disc reads so that backups are able to be read.

Man, this is awesome!!
Have you noticed any issues with compatibility, such as games like Mortal Kombat Armageddon which will not work with the backup loader? Have you managed to fix problems with the older games, or do they still exist?

If the issue for why the game wouldnt load is because of the backuploader apploader (ie, an entry point problem or an issue that was not in 0.1 but is now in 0.3 for example mean a problem in the apploader) then it is fixed. if its an unavoidable issue with cIOS handling read commands, thats something Waninkoko will have to work on to better his cIOS.
QUOTE(Luriden @ Nov 15 2008, 02:34 PM) I don't think this is going to be any different from gamma as far as compatibility goes. What he's done is make it so games now load from the disc channel on boot, I'm assuming gamma has been implemented.
Gamma has not been implemented, Waninkoko's cIOS is used though for the "backend" to support backups being played.

If we have already updated to 3.3 will we be able to install this still?
Yes, and update back if necessary.

Just to clear some of this up, this is not just a single man project overall (althought I am the sole developer for cSM). My cSM, rather, the scene's cSM depends on the great work that Wiigator/Waninkoko do with their cIOS, and i hope to work alongside them in development of a true "custom firmware" (IOS+system menu). Also, A few patches I've implemented were discovered by Nuke / Crediar and released in their applications as well (GeckoOS/Starfall), so they will find namedrops of themselves in releases of cSM, although Crediar's source was not released so tracing back the useful patches he implemented were a pain in the ass.

Also this does aim to become a "c"SM, not a "p" or patched or whatever system menu like starfall is. This will be a true, graphically revamped, feature full project. So no marcan, not "custom" from the ground up like your work (which is great), but pretty damned close if I say so myself. It still resembles official system menu 3.2 so much because its an early early alpha...

wtf about them? Either get a proper 1:1 copy of the game and play it, or use one of the old loaders that supports bastardised/decrypted discs.

I will gladly donate my time and wii to test this out... I would love to be a beta tester, but I know asking on the boards will get me about as much of a chance as trying to piss on the moon!

Wait, with this csm you dont need to run the backup loader and reboot to get the games in the disc channel???

This is what we all been waiting for

cSM will be a total replacement of the wiis system menu.
And it'll be permanent.
But can be overwritten by another system menu.
