Hacking Confused as to what flash cart to get...

I have a Original 3DS got it for my son right after it launched due to his DS screen braking, He dosnt use it much anymore.. (maybe once every 3-4 months) i'm taking it over and want to get a flash cart for it.. its currently running 9.2.0-20u.

Heres what i dont understand.. is i get a gateway so i need Zelda OoT? or Cubic Ninja? i've seen some places say i do need one of them (dont have either) some places say i only need to goto a website so i'm not sure what to do...

I like the idea of the gateway vs the sky3ds due to being able to update it, but the sky3ds looks like it just works.

If i had the money i would just get both.. but i dont have $150 bucks to spare getting one of them is a kinda pushing it but i'll make due

A new3ds (the latest models) requires all the extra game carts and stuff.

Still might just be easier to get SKY3ds; or so I would think, since it's just insert and go after setting it up.

if you want all the extra features gateway has, get a gateway card, if you want something more simple that would still work if the system is ever accidentally updated get sky3ds
all original 3ds can either use the web exploit for entering gateway mode or you could downgrade to 4.x and use the DS profile exploit for offline access to gateway mode

Gateway is BY FAR the better of the two on the old 3ds/3ds xl

If you think you're able to go on without ever updating your console by accident, Gateway for sure no question

Sky would be a stupid choice if you're on a GW compatible firmware

I was thinking more "in the future" actually, let's say he decides to get a n3ds for who knows what reason. Just a thought.

I don't disagree that GW would be best ultimately, notice the MIGHT (as in maybe, who knows?)

Hopefully if/when he decides to upgrade to the n3ds gateway will have released the mii exploit by then.

Do not touch the 3DS and leave it on 9.2. In meantime, go get Gateway 3DS.

You CAN run some features of Gateway without the carts. Go DL the Gateway Ultra 3.1 Pack and copy the launcher.dat onto the SD card (just send to SD card). Then you can load up the web browser and go to

http://www.go-gateway.com/

Then look up how to backup your SYSNAND and you may also dump ROMS of games you have so you can copy headers in case anything happens. Then when GW arrives, you may install it on your 9.2 3DS.

No need for OOT or Sky3DS on original 3DS or 3DSXL. Only New3DSXL requires that.

You also have the option of using Cubic Ninja to jailbreak the 3DS. You'll need an actual catridge of CN to do this. If you have a Sky3DS you can just DL CN and use it instead.

Otherwise, stick to Gateway 3DS.

I have a Gateway (selling it).. but gave up trying to get it to work properly on my New 3ds, so I ordered a Sky3ds yesterday.

Which guide was this or do you mean just the instructions? lol. I know a lot of people reported NO was because they incorrectly used the exploit with a 2Ds or regular 3DS

Just repeating what gamesquest1 said. Mine worked (most of the time) so I didn't have to do anything with it. There is some thread that ALLEDGEDLY has a fix for the ones that had problems.

I'm one of the people that voted no on that poll. It wouldn't work for me with GW's save, but with the fixed save posted later in another thread it worked for me and should work for everyone else as well.

The incompatibility is real, and the fix certainly works - I had to use it myself.
It has to do with the fact that there were multiple revisions of the OoT cart released, and they need different saves.

I did something kinda dumb.. spent money i dont really have to spend lol anyways..

I still have the original 3ds and my gateway should be here monday..

But.. today i went and bought a New 3ds XL (with firmware 9.0), i MIGHT not keep it.. if its more hassle then it work to get the gateway working on it..
from what i understand with the n3ds i need to use the cubic ninja exploit to get the gateway to work.. ok only place i can find that is online for ~$40-50
is there way way to get things done cheaper? me getting into play 3ds games went form spending $0 to almost $300 now

any help would be great.. if all else fails i'll just return the n3ds xl and keep the o3ds with the gateway
