To put this simply, I would like a cheap slate (as in non-convertible) tablet computer. All that I really need is a camera, a microphone, and some DDR3 memory already installed (preferably 4GB). I can upgrade the hard drive later.

In all seriousness, though, I do not expect to get a much lower price, since the lowest satisfactory price I got was around $2,400, and I read that these types of computers are expensive...

Maybe a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
I think I read somewhere that one of those cost more than an iPad.

Why non-convertible? Lenovo makes a decent line of tablet pcs including the X200s and they are cheaper than $2,000... but if you beef them up more they might not be.

some stats from that page:

Intel Core i7-620LM Processor (2.00GHz, 4MB L3, 1066MHz FSB)

250 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm

If Windows is your game, The HP Slate 500 was just released to market, however it has DDR2 modules and they're soldered onto the board (800USD):

On the OSX side, you can buy an entry-level MBP (which has DD3 modules) and send it to Axiotron to be converted into a tablet (about 2000USD total).

These are of course US prices, as I have no idea what comparable hardware runs in Puerto Rico.

I already know about those, but thank you, anyways.

P.S. My father is just going to buy the expensive tablet anyways, even if I object.
