Cave Story is getting another release on the 3DS, though this time it appears to have more in common with the Steam version Cave Story+ than the 2011 3DS remake.

This version, unveiled in this month's Nintendo Power, will include a laundry list of modes and features, including jukebox mode, adjustable controls, Boss Rush, Curly Story, Hell Time Attack, Wind Fortress, Nemesis Challenge, and more. It will also add a widescreen presentation and 3D effect.

However, it looks like the DSiWare version, which is out in North America, may be removed from the eShop before this comes out. It will remain in the DSi Shop, though.

We've reached out to Nicalis for confirmation about the game's contents and planned release window. We'll update this as we get more info.

I don't understand how they can milk this so much
Nobody complains that this is the 4th commercial release of a freeware game? The 3DS version was a mistake, too. It's super-easy.

I am putting more money aside for this. Even though I own a lot of the ports.

But! But! It's Cave Story! Not something lame like Call of Duty or Madden!

I love Cave Story, but this is just too much:

    Original freeware
    Ports for every system ever
    Wii
    Steam
    Mac App Store
    DSiWare
    3DS Retail
    3DSware

It is literally the same game

Am I going to have to buy this one? Or is it an update or exchange for the dsi version?
Because I just recently bought the dsi version for ten dollars...

Some are saying update, some don't mention it. Though I suppose nobody really knows at this point.

Hope you enjoyed paying $40 for your terrible version of Cave Story folks.

'Cause now you can pay probably a fourth of that for a good version.

I actually enjoyed the 3DS version of Cave Story. Sold it for $30 after I was finished with it. It was quite refreshing seeing the beautiful 3D landscapes translated from the pixelated game. I was disappointed that it was missing many of the extra features of Cave Story+.

I just downloaded Cave Story for my PSP. It's awesome but now something that I would pay for.

TBH it's just about as full featured and worthwhile as any indie game. Relatively lengthy with reason for going back.

Not worth paying $40 for but definitely worth $10. Although the rampant re-releases are a bit of a joke.

The SCDS2 can be updated even if you're on an unsupported SM. The beginners guide is more in detail :ninja:

To paraphrase Micheal Black in Stella, this game has had more reinventions than Thomas Edison!
