I would find out whether the switch you have is patched or not.

There are plenty of guides for sending a payload from a computer, you just need a usb c cable & a way of triggering RCM (a bent paperclip will do, but be careful)

okay i just ordered a jig that can come tomorrow (free prime member delivery). i had one ordered that was going to take 2 weeks or more. too long to know if this is patched or not.

does it matter if my system is 8.1 or 9.1?

sorry matt i didn't see your post until after i posted my last comment.

i'm really confused. do you access rcm via the joycon rail (aka the console itself) or the joycon itself? the paperclip is obviously for the joycon rail on the console but a video showing how to use the foil method is showing using the joycon itself then clicking it into the system.

never mind i get it. you put the foil in the joycon so it makes contact with the right pins in the joycon rail.

since i'm getting a jig tomorrow i'm going to try this system first. if it's patched then i will return it and get that one on ebay if it's still available.

You use foil on joycon if it stays in wireless mode you got yourself a jig, just remove before updating joycons, and don't let it slide sideways, make sure it is only on last two pins.
Sorry didn't see last part.

even if i could get into rcm mode tonight i don't have a usb c to a cord. so i couldn't test to see if it's patched. i'm just antsy to find out. hoping i can find out before that guy sells his really low serial number switch on ebay. either way there will always be low serial switches for sale on ebay. it's just his is at a really good price (300 dollars).
