As if I wasn't already surprised at the DSi finally getting hacked, now the Wii Mini is getting its turn in the spotlight. Now they aren't completely worthless after all!

For some reason the game series keeps selling for the Wii.

Not only sell, but sell better than other platforms. I guess it fits the demographic of people who like that kind of thing? Maybe becoming a xmas tradition.

I guess it's cheap to just refresh the music and graphics.

Wow, it’s weird seeing the Wii Mini finally get what it deserves.
You can run Linux in a VM and passthrough an adapter if you have a usb bluetooth adapter, but no this won't work natively on Windows or Mac probably ever.

Cool, so can I use this on a Korean Wii with error 003? You know just load the exploit and install priiloader.

nope, you need to be able to boot the Wii normally. The only way to recover from that brick is with a modchip on the optical drive (or a drive emulator, perhaps)

Just to let everyone know, do not ever set priiloader to autoboot Homebrew Channel. If you resync a controller and have none synced it will soft-brick where it can only boot the Homebrew Channel since homebrew apps cant sync remotes.

Priiloader can be booted via a forwarder using HBC and configured from there but you cant hold reset to get into the menu. the beta version should allow pressing power to get into the menu but without network settings for the LAN adapter I cant update it and i dont feel like compiling it either.

I wrote this (not very well formatted) guide on how to get out of that bootloop if anyone else is as stupid as I am.

https://gbatemp.net/threads/fix-wii-remote-sync-on-wii-while-stuck-in-autoboot-homebrew-loop.549509/

also, anyone have any info on copying network settings over to use the LAN adapter? I tried copying the settings from a normal Wii and it still ignored the adapter.

Anyone have any clue why I get error 102 opening config.dat using the LAN enabler program? it works on my original Wii but the Mini errors out. so far nobody has responded to my questions on the wiiminihacks discord either. my last ditch effort will be to run it via bluebomb itself via converting it to elf via dol2elf and seeing what that does since it should run over the System Menu itself.

What a sight. My Wii Mini with the homebrew channel installed. I've been waiting for this for damn long. It's almost unreal. Thanks to @Fullmetal5 and everybody else involved for this.

I dunno if this will work for everybody, but in my case, I had to type systemctl stop instead of systemctl disable. That was on a Raspberry Pi running Raspbian (Debian) 9 Stretch.

I can't do it anymore because, virtualbox and Ubuntu can't read my integrated laptop Bluetooth anymore and I don't know why...

Well done, fine stuff indeed!

When the normal wii version is released this means simpler unbricking method for error 003 or other non full bricks I guess. I have a korean wii lying around which I never got the timing right for region swap tricks to unbrick it.

It will be fun to unbrick it with a new method.

This is an exploit that allows you to hack your Wii and Wii Mini with just a Linux computer and a Bluetooth adapter.
Instructions and downloads are available here: https://github.com/Fullmetal5/bluebomb
There will be a writeup once I get more time but in the meantime you can use this to hack your Wii Mini.
Normal Wii System Menu support will be added in a bit. You can also add support for whatever app/game you want to use if you read the "How do I create an app-specific stage0?" instructions on the Github repo.
Yes, thank you very much...

I am stuck at "waiting to accept" using Ubuntu virtual machine:
WeNeaSB.png

Console is on and wiimote (NO wiimote plus) is synced and then I removed wiimote batteries.

I rapidly pressed the sync button for over 2 minutes but nothing happens... any hint ?

I used 2 different bluetooth adapters.

Also is this "info" correct or should I have "RVL-something" instead of "Virtual Bluetooth Adapter" ?

Nevermind, got my Wii Mini finally hacked.

@asper
There could be something that interrups the Bluetooth signals. Did you make sure to get all things out from the Computer USB ports that can interrupt the Bluetooth Signal? Even USB Receivers for Bluetooth mouses? If that's the case the only thing you can do is to be patient. Sometimes you have to hit more times the Sync Button before it works.

I have a mini with no physical drive so is 100% useless.

THANKS to all those involved in this hack it is now be reborn.

I used a Blue Next BN01 csr chipset adapter which I bought several years ago and never used until now.

Initially I had a L2CAP socket address already in use error. Rebooted computer ran installation again with success.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
Karma177 @ Karma177: @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really...
