Ok I'm stumped...

I've tried Waninkoko's Backup Loader, Gecko Loader and now the new Backup Launcher... And the only screen I'm getting is a green flash and then a black screen. Forced to restart the console after that.

Everything is NTSC and I'm using regular Wii AV cables...

I've used a Maxell DVD-R burnt pretty fast, so I burnt another Maxell DVD-R at 4x, and they both do the same thing. I then tried burning a Verbatim DVD+R at 4x and set the booktype to DVD-ROM. And that gave me the green screen flash as well.

So basically I've tried all three CDs in all three Loaders and they give me the same problem.

The game was Star Wars: Force Unleashed and I've seen other people having success with it. So does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I patched using the patcher that came with the original Waninkoko's loader. I assumed that was fine to use with the other loaders? Maybe I have something wrong with my ISO?

Any help is appreciated!
Cheers!

You might need to wait a bit longer on the black screen. Again, the loading takes a long time.

well 16x is what my disks are rated at, burn at that speed. i had smg burnt at 4, 1, and now 16. it froze a lot at 4x, froze a little at 1x, and i just got 105th star at 16x! 1x was playable but froze on the certain star i was trying to get.

EDIT: it just froze on the screen "The game has been saved." as soon as i pressed 'save' i wrote the above. hopefully it actually saved my game!

Yeah I actually tried just leaving it and coming back 30min later and it's still frozen at a black screen. When people are talking about "green screen" is this what they see as well? Just a flash of the green screen and then black?

Any other ideas/suggestions?

is this just as good as what waninkoko's backup loader was promising? I was going to wait until he officially releases it, so should i use this one instead?

this one is a lot better. it uses waninkoko's cios (or you could use wiigator's but they are functionally the same), and wii gator's backup launcher, which is a modified version of gecko os. you also still need to patch your iso's and install dvdx but it works a lot better.

hopefully this gets to the point where it can play iso's off of a usb external. Honestly these backup loaders are great and I appreciate the hard work, but the day it loads off an external i'll donate $50 to the maker ill be so happy. Im just so lazy that to be able to just turn on the game and have a terrabyte hard drive with all my games on it is the greatest thing that could happen.

well streaming would be slow as hell if it was over wifi. but i supposed if you bought the ethernet adaptor it would be ok.

I think I finally got this right... Can someone check just in case?
I followed all of these steps (they're for Waninkoko's Backup Loader though, so I wasn't sure of what changes I needed to make except for the WAD channel; I have Wiigator's Backup Loader Channel instead)
http://maschell.de/mediawiki-1.6.10/index....e_Backup_Loader
Is there a step that was omitted from this tutorial that is mandatory for Wiigator's Backup Loader?

I only have to burn a backup game onto a disc now, but I don't have any DVD-Rs so I'll just have to wait. Can anyone help me with the burning process?

It'd be faster than the current loader that's running at 3x. (31.5Mbit/s if it's the same as regular drives)
802.11G (WiFi) maxes out at 54Mbit/s, my connection usually sits on 48Mbit/s.
One would assume the ethernet adaptor works at 100MBit/s which would be faster than the drive itself right?

USB 1.1 is 12Mbit/s so compared to the loader it'd be impossibly slow.
USB 2.0 @ 480Mbit/s would obviously be more than enough, although the Wii doesn't yet support it.

(Thanks Wikipedia!

Now if only I could actually help with development some how...

EDIT: John, I'm pretty sure the you've set it up correctly as most of the tools used are the same apart from the loader itself.
IMGBurn seems to be the favourite around here.
Grab it if you don't already have it and I think burning at 4x/8x gets the best results.

Ok, thanks Dylaan.

I'm just worried since I was skimming through 2 threads about the new Backup Loader and saw a lot of things I haven't really seen before like the geckoos.dol or the extractionpartition thing.

I'll go and burn WiiChess to see if I did everything right.

Wii supports USB 2.0 via the Ethernet adaptor, so that's a possbility.
But what do I know, I'm not even a programmer.

toasterhead219 said:
i didn't wanna pressure anyone by saying 'WE NEED USB SUPPORT!!!!' so now i know that its pointless to say it. my hopes and dreams for the wii have been crushed! how did they get usb support running on the ps2?

There are a few things wrong.

1) USB Extreme on the PS2 worked HORRIBLY.
2) USB Extreme formatted the drive in the same way HD Loader does, so you can't just plug it into your PC and drop ISOs onto it.
3) We'd most likely beusing FAT for the filesystem, which has a 4GB file limit (Windows has some kind of work aroundfor this, but that is irrelevant as we'd be limited to 4GB minus 2 bytes.)
4) We still don't have USB 2.0 unlocked for the Wii. We know it supports it, but we don't know how to access it.

I already had homebrew channel so setting this up was real easy...
Sim City Creators NTSC - Patched and burned at 4x, SONY DVD-R. Movies stutter, game plays great.
Star Wars Force Unleased NTSC - Patched image. Burned at AUTO/MAX (16x) speed on a TDK DVD+R. Works great.
for grins I tried the unpatched image, burned at AUTO/MAX (16x) speed on a TDK DVD+R...and that didn't work...went back to loader menu.
Excellent job!
