QUOTE said:
Here is Senator Stephen Conroy, the man driving the Australian Government’s Internet filtering plans, speaking about Internet security threats in Australia on TV.

Here’s the transcript:

“There’s a staggering number of Australian’s being in having their computers infected at the moment, up to 20,000, uh, can regularly be getting infected by these spams, or scams, that come through, the portal.”[/p]
LOL.

Seriously, irrespective of which side of the argument you sit on, you’d have to say that this guy is probably not qualified to be leading the case for the Government.

ITS EP3 PEOPLES, WE'RE LIVING IT!

I feel sorry for you Australians, I really do.
Leave the well being of the internet in the hands of people who actually know what it is.

This Conroy guy probably wouldn't even understand the fundamental difference between the internet and the world wide web!

My friend met this guy once, and he argued with him about censorship on the internet. My friend asked him why they didn't try putting in money to teach people about the dangers on the internet rather than going through such extreme lengths to make certain websites inaccessible. His response was "So you want people looking at kiddy porn?" (apparently he actually did use the phrase "kiddy porn")

I know its a slightly different topic than viruses (or "spams and scams"), but if people want to access certain websites, they will and there's nothing anyone can do about it.This just further proves how ignorant the people that lead this country are.

So you're telling me a tech geek has a better chance of making safer internet options then a person whose taking EXTREME cautions just to prove he can make it much safer?! HA! Elitest vs Extremist....

Great. never liked that Conroy bitch anyways. I'm glad he gave up on the censorship shit. I bet if it was enforced, it wouldn't be JUST porn sites blocked, but other sites outside the pornography classification.

problem with any upcoming election, we've practically only got the choice between dumbass 1 and dumbass 2.

@fgghjjkll: the internet filter was aimed to block anything that was deemed "harmful", they were just using child porn to try and enforce it.

Since Labor was in power, we're in big debt. Tbh, I liked John Howard more.

Boooo, Rudd is cleaning up the shit Howard left... bloody caterpillar eyes >_>

On this, well... hes a retard. Rather then enforcing restrictions why not take a nationwide AVG or Nod32 account xD

But seriously make a law that forces computerretailers to make full AntiVirus OEM on all pc's sold!

That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. Politicians have hit new lows...

And I agree with the above, that both the main contenders for election are idiots.

Howard was pretty shit too, but at least he was funny (as in you could laugh at him).

If Rudd actually fulfilled any of his big promises, he'd be alright. But he's just spent a lot of money on jack shit. The recent mining tax is a decent idea, if they have the guts and support to go through with it.
