I know all of you are those "DOWN WITH THE GOVERNMENT WE NEED OUR RIGHTS HEAR MY VOICE!" type of people, but this is for the better. Of course, when they go on blocking things left and right, which seems to be the avenue this parade of a law is going down.
It says it will block essentially
child pornography and
violent pornography (quickie note, that's a great System of a Down song
). If anyone here watches any of those I'll make sure to personally punch you through my computer screen.
Most of this crap they're blocking is stuff that should be blocked. They didn't say piracy yet so why are we freaking out?
And if you're really so stupid as to think "OH ANY SITE THAT HAS THE WORDS "CHILD PORNOGRAPHY" ON IT WILL BE BLACKLISTED!" then a "derp derp derp" to you. GBAtemp won't be blocked simply because we chat about piracy. GBAtemp doesn't allow illegal content and has a very strict code of decency and to obey the law. We're just as much of a game discussion forum as the forums at Gamespot or 1,000 other gaming discussion sites.
And most regular porno, for those of you who fap your flap out, won't be blocked. Pornography is completely legal and it's anyone's right to watch it, as long as it obeys the laws. Most "regular" porno does. Just don't expect as much S&M porno around, 'kay?
And if you're really so desperately lonely that you use fucking 4chan, then you don't even deserve an internet.
Yeah, the Australian government has been a bunch of douchebags, but if they keep this policy as it is without going against piracy, it's a good policy.
What Hop brought up about "Legislation will be introduced into Parliament next year which will require all ISPs to block material which has been refused classification in other countries" and how it may relate to illegal (but not terrible like child porn) acts like piracy, just think. There's going to be an internet provider in Australia who could just benefit from this business by saying "Hey, we won't block any sites that aren't required!" If ISPs start blocking sites left and right, people will drop from their service. Also, pirates, ever think of using a game rental service like GameFly (if they have it in the land down under). Yeah, God forbid you have to pay for your piracy, but you also won't use up your bandwidth. Rent a game, rip it, burn it to a disc/copy to a HDD, send the game back. You may not get many foreign games, though, and that's probably the problem.
