ARM confirms Switch is powered by four Cortex-A57 cores

It was much debated on the Internet what SoC Nintendo's Switch is using. Some say it is powered by Nvidia's 2 years old Tegra X1, others say it is powered by a custom Tegra Pascal chip. It seems we finally have an answer as ARM claimed the Switch will be powered by 4x ARM Cortex-57 cores. For reference, the X1 also uses four ARM Cortex-57 cores. While Nvidia's Pascal based Tegra P1 chip utilises four Cortex-57 cores as well, it also has 2 additional Denver2 cores that are lacking in the X1 and ARM's announcement. That means it's very likely that Nintendo went with the X1, although with some sort of possible customization.

Update

Someone asked ARM via email about the facebook post and ARM says it was 'not an official statement' and removed the post. Whether it was posted by mistake or if there is any other reason behind it is anyone's guess. ARM notably didn't deny the truthfullness of the post, but at present the Switch's SoC remains unconfirmed.

Except that an arcade is not a home console. No one is saying Nintendo "invented" analog sticks, but that they were the ones to bring it to the home console making it a standardized input. And designed to be controlled with just a thumb instead of gripping the stick. If you REALLY wanted to make an argument against this narrative, you would not have picked Sega, but rather this thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1292_Advanced_Programmable_Video_System

That's an analog stick on a home console. Of course it is still designed as something you have to grip rather than the natural way we control analog sticks today with our thumbs that the N64 gave us.
The stick that could move in every direction was invented by Sega. The 3d controller was released a couple of weeks later meaning it had enough development time. Nintendo didn't invent the analog stick. Please come with real facts if you think Nintendo did introduce it wich they clearly didn't.

Why is it so hard for fucking idiotic fanboys to accept facts !!!!!! The stick that could move in every direction was invented by Sega. So the analog stick that Sega came out with in 1985 predated the one that I linked to that came out in the 1970's? Maybe you are the one that needs to actually read other people's posts.

I clearly said the first stick that could register every movement in every direction. Ofcourse there were sticks prior to that but they couldn't register every movement in every direction.
I'm not saying Nintendo didn't do a lot in the home console market but they're not getting that credit from me but Sega does.

Analog Control Sticks were invented in 1926, if you research about it.

Nah, but it's a fun topic. Everyone else contributing proper information is helping me learn. So thanks for insisting on getting them to provide evidence and research :D

So you continue to not read or do any further research and instead double-down on your assertions. Clearly there is no point in further conversing with you.

LOL. So true this time.
The derailment was totally unexpected.

Why because i gave you facts that Sega invented the first true analog stick that could register every movement in every direction but your fanboy mind can't fathom that and still want to believe Nintendo did wich you're not giving me any proof of ?
You should look stuff up first before claiming that the N64 did.

Against my better judgement, I will respond to you this one last time before putting you on my ignore list.

1) I did not claim Nintendo invented the analog stick. If you go through my posts, I even specifically stated that they did not.
2) You made the claim that Sega invented it by means of a controller that came out after the N64
3) You further made the claim that Sega still invented because they put an analog stick on an arcade cabinet in 1985, to which I provided a link to a game console that did have an analog stick in the 1970s
4) Furthermore, Atari also had an analog stick controller for the Atari 5200 which, again, came out before your precious sega arcade game

Good day, sir.

1: yeah the other guy did
2: It was only a couple of weeks difference with the release in Japan ( controller was in development for a while)
3: I said the first stick that could register movement in every direction and that stick you were talking about didn't register movement in every direction
4: That stick also didn't register movement in every direction like the one for space harrier did do.

The phone only costs 200usd. And I was talking about the CPUs only, not the GPU in the respective SoCs. I have no doubt that the Switch will have one of the most powerful GPUs ever put in a mobile device till date.
Coming back to this (I don't want to dredge up an argument, I'm just curious), I can't find any of these A7x phones for under $200. Would you mind linking me to a few? They may be good for PC tethered VR with a good enough headset

If you're referring to me, I said "innovated," not "invented"

If you're going to argue about that then let's have a discussion about who actually invented the electric lightbulb /s

The early 2 axis analog joysticks, like in old pong or early PCs, work quite similar to current analog sticks.
The one on old PCs have two pots that connect to a capacitor in a charging circuit. In those old systems the charge time of the capacitor is measured, this is a poor man ADC, and that leads to movement detection in all directions, as precise as the timer used to count the charge time (and it was quite precise back in early 80s PCs)

It didn't register full 360 direction through a singular stick. Space harrier is known for being the first stick that did invented by Sega. That's a fact and it's known accepted fact in the retro community. Seems the only people that don't are Nintendo fanboys.
Nintendo did do a lot for the home console market, i'm not denying that .

That's the thing, it's a balancing act with all consoles, and CPU power is never the biggest priority. The power of XB1/PS4's CPU portion is pretty laughable compared to any modern PC CPU, be it AMD or Intel. They don't need that kind of power though, and neither does Switch. All about dat GPU efficiency.

:switch:
So you didn't notice the performance increase in the N3ds over the O3ds? Hmm.
The Xbox one and ps4 have decent processors for 2014.

I was kind of a Sega fanboy back in the console wars days. I'm far from a Nintendo fanboy and I couldn't care about nintendo in this case.
But regarding those old PC joysticks, I did low level software using them back in the day, I dealt with the electronics inside.
Just by experience I know you can read x and y coordinates (values) the same way as with current analogs, in complete 360 directions.
