Just checking to see if the spill bugs were also present in AO. Can you confirm that the notebook text fit fine in Ao?
Actually, I should have mentioned those files are only for the monster info in battle. >_<
They don't add the text to the notebook.
But I made a save with complete notebook here. Also included the save editor I used (it's Chinese though).

I know it's not necessarily the right thread, but i'm preparing my first Zero playthrough right now (well actually i just want to finish Sora Evo SC first so it's not urgent). The Japanese PC version of Zero no Kiseki has these horrible load times if you leave buildings or enter another town section (10-12 seconds). I heard this is due to a shader bug. I don't have the problem with the Chinese PC version, but i want to play the Japanese version because it's supposedly the only one that works with the translation patch + the voice patch. Has there been any bug fix about that, i mean the loading times? i heard the loading times wouldn't happen with Window mode but that's not the case.

Edit: Or has anyone gotten the Chinese version to run with the voice patch + the translation?

What locations exactly cause this? I cannot verify this, at worst it takes 4 seconds.

And last I checked the Chinese version is just completely different.

It happens everytime a new environment is loaded. That bug has also been addressed by the team which is currently editing the leaked script. It supposedly is because of a shader bug. The Chinese version runs perfectly.

Have you tried setting it so Nvidia uses your dedicated graphics card? That's the only difference I can think between me and you (assuming you're using the latest patches we have for Zero PC), because for me it really isn't that noticeable in any part of the main Crossbell area. Maybe messing with other graphic options wouldn't be a bad idea.

Thanks... Now at least the questlog works... But the loading times are still about 12 seconds... I guess i'll have to wait until the translation team fixes the shader bug that causes the load times. Or i'll play the Chinese version without voices. :( Interesting enough playing it on 800x600 cuts the load times to 1-2 seconds. So it's defintely some kind of VRam overflow (I have a very old laptop NVidia graphics card from 2008 - Geforce 9600MGT). The only reason why you aren't experiencing the load times could be because your card my have multiple times the VRAM and processing power. But the shader bug is there.

The sound isnt working for me...I put the Talk folder from evo in the data folder as well. But no music is playing at all or sound effects, your patch is nicer then the one I had lol otherwise though. Any idea how I can fix the sound? my other copied backuu has it running fine.
Do you have the ogg voice files extracted from the Evo game?

I've heard that the bad load times in the Japanese version are due to running in fullscreen mode. You shouldn't anyway since it causes the game to crash if you alt-tab for any reason, better to just set windowed mode, window resolution to the same as your desktop resolution, and then use Borderless Gaming to make it borderless fullscreen.

Also this could be placebo but it seems to me that the game runs a bit smoother after you've alt-tabbed out and back into it at least once after launching. Though you need to have some other application open to do this since the game won't let you leave focus if you don't have something else to give focus to. I usually just open the task manager before launching it or something. Worst case if you get stuck you can just ctrl+alt+del to open this, doesn't seem to harm the game any.

Yeah that was also something someone on reddit suggested to me. But it didn't help. At this point i almost resignated. Maybe if there was a way to play the Chinese version with the voice patch i could play this version, as the Chinese one doesn't have any loading time issues at all. This is just so frustrating. :(

The Chinese and Japanese versions run perfectly on my system.
I never doubted that they run fine on your system. But just ask the people behind the fan translation, currently editing it. They wouldn't also work on a patch to fix the shader bug causing the load times if it were not a thing. The reason why you don't have that problem may be because your hardware is just so much better?

If you can get them to share fix or info on where to look I'll add it.

The most into detail posting i know of is this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Falcom/comments/70ouzd/some_technical_issues_with_the_japanese_pc/dn9yb86/

Maybe this gives you a clue otherwise i'll try to contact the guy. But i don't think he'll share the secret since the performance patch is one main draw for the new translation/edit as it will be released alongside the edited translation patch.

I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

    run h2testw on it

yes looks like an faulty sd

@The Real Jdbye, I considered that, but i'll have to wait until i can get the eu version in the mail lol
