It's pretty rad that Street Fighter II is getting a new physical release but the price they're asking for just seems too much for such an old game that's available on tons and tons of platforms. There's one cool thing about this Switch version, it has a 1st Person Mode. Who knows how good that first person mode will be, there's loads of potential in that mode but not going to get hyped over that.

I did play USFII at the Switch Premiere (against someone who kept spamming) so while the game looked great in high definition and the controls were solid, it's a hard-sell at that price.

The FPS mode is more of a mini game like the car crush or barrel drop. The games more of a cash grab for us in the FGC (Fighting game community) because Capcoms not doing to well.

Really? That's surprising because they finally released MvC3 on PC and at a really reasonable price ($25). Obviously that does make the pricing for SF2 on Switch look even worse, though.

Hell no. I still own SF2 Turbo for the SNES and the HD Remix on PSN. I could buy both of them again, twice, for the cost of this shit. $40 for a gimmick mode and two extra palette swaps is even more of a rip-off than Street Fighter V.

I was going to buy it and play it with my dad, who is a huge SF2 fan. I'll probably still buy it, but it's a shame it's being sold for $40. Maybe I'll get it once it's on sale.

Even with Prime savings it's too expensive but yeah I'm pre-ordering. Big fan of the series, new SF2 balancing with option for old sprites WITH the fucking old backgrounds is really nice, unlike STHDR. I'll hopefully be able to buy a stick around the same time too. Also I think it's rad af to see Violent Ken in a non-SNK game. Never thought he'd EVER come back.

Thing is though outside of smash bros players no one in the fgc might want to play fighting games on the nintendo switch. That and i doubt smash players will want to play smash bros on the switch unless there is gamecube controller support somehow since no one gives other controllers a chance.

A worthy release title for the switch would be Breath of Fire 6 imo. Releasing SF2 to me feels like a mockery of sorts on the system. 3DS has SF4 lol.

The game is getting rebalanced so it will feel nothing like hd remix from a gameplay standpoint like ryu no longer having a fakeout fireball move. I agree with the price though. I think it's because cartridges might cost more to produce over discs.

While the Gamecube controller is the most popular controller among the Smash community, it is partially because of familiarity. People that played Melee were able to more easily transition to 4 because of the familiar controls. People fresh in the series could pick whatever they wanted to use. Newly found tech would be easier to practice on a Gamecube controller though, because it's what the old series veterans used when they found the tech. The Bidou tech was found using a Wii U Pro controller, and is much easier to do on that, while still being possible on Gamecube. My point is, people will definitely play Smash on the Switch. Having a Gamecube controller adapter is a nice bonus.

Well, the "hardcore" players won't play anything after Melee anyway.

i did and i had no problem justifying the price
super street fighter 2 for the snes is like $20 used
this is new not used
this is the definitive version of street fighter 2
it's a physical cartridge not digital or a disc so it's got resale value and i don't have to worry about it getting scratched up
it's got online play and portability
and best of all i don't have to play with my old broken snes controllers
oh and it's on a console i actually have hooked up to the tv no digging up old consoles or messing with wires.

i can see why other people would think it's too expensive but for me it was an instant buy being a physical definitive version of one of my favorite games on a console with an HDMI port is just awesome.
i did pay $60 for street fighter 5 and i gotta say that was a huge rip off having characters that should have been standard as expensive dlc fuck capcom
but no with street fighter 2 i know what i'm getting and i'm fine with it.

I also bought SFV for full price but god damn I feel more ripped off about the other dlc that's not characters. I hate paying for stages (especially when they're all the same gameplay-wise, unlike Smash 4's stages), the costumes are obscenely expensive, and buying those color packs was lame cause it's literally to bypass the shitty survival mode. I know full well that Capcom has been butt fucking my wallet but I like SFV, I think it's pretty good with a GIGANTIC MINUS on the dlc expenses. Anyways USF2 is looking sweet, can't wait!

Need something like a Hori Fighter Pad Pro for the Switch (a fighter stick would be too expensive for my taste) before I jump on any 2D fighters on the Switch even the Pro Controllers D-Pad does not cut it for 2D fighters if you want to pull off some decent combos on command.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:

  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
