Gaming American Charger on a Japanese DS

I was thinking of getting a japanese DSi, since they tend to go around for slightly cheaper, but the one that I found doesn't have a charger. My first thought was that this wouldn't really matter, since I have two DSi chargers for my old DSi XL and 3DS, but then I remembered that there might be differences between the north american chargers and the japanese ones. My question is whether or not I can use a north american charger on a japanese DSi, or could the differences in voltage mess up the battery in some way.
