can the RPG use the _AIO directory if it is placed on the SD root? or must it be in the NAND as with previous releases?

also could anyone do me a favour and upload the globalsettings.ini file (as created on first startup of AKAIO) because im lazy and i dont want to plug my RPG in twice to edit the settings.

Thank you Smiths for your reply.

I hope you maintained the alcohol level since than

Anyways ... I really would like to have a cheat button on the properties page.

Finally got is to work on my patrolit sdhc card. Gobal setting is missing and if your sd card is not listed on sdlist.ini it won't created one on first bootup.

Here is the settings. Just copy this into notepad and save it as globalsettings.ini. Place this file into the __aio drawer.
This should fix the blue screen problem. Fix mine.

....

Very strange. No SDHC card here so again, can't account for all scenarios.
Guess we'll include a default globalsettings.ini in the next release.

(I think the reason it was missing from the archive was because this is based off RPG-only firmware and I think people didn't like having some files overwritten when they unzipped it to their RPG... there were complaints about having to reset preferences each time, so globalsettings was removed.
So we'll just make it up to the end user to extract everything but globalsettings.ini if they don't want to overwrite things.

Also, regarding the whole "power button in the help window"...
I've uhh, never understood the use of that on a DS since ya know... the power button is.. ya know... 1cm away all the time. IF you have to put the stylus away or hit a button, you're close enough to the power button.

I promote exercise... use those fingers!

nope. when you d/l AKAIO or any firmware, it comes with the zelda theme. the basic ones are adv.evo, black and zelda i think.

Check your globalsettings.ini file and see what skin it's trying to load, then make sure you have that skin. Or, edit it to "black" or some other skin you have. The screen shot that was posted earlier in this thread is exactly what I was seeing when it couldn't find the skin it was looking for (when I deleted my "Zelda" skin). Replacing the skin it was looking for (in my case Zelda) fixed the problem.

Smiths, it would be a good idea to make it at least run without the skin it's looking for, so that at the very least you can switch it to a skin you have.

I've just started using my new AK2, so I'm not fully informed on the AK2's custom fw's and whatnot. From personal experience, would you recommend AKAIO over Bliss's latest (and last?) CFW release? I've been using Bliss since about 2 releases ago and it's going great, but I'm wondering if AKAIO adds a significant amount of new features or not...

I would recommend AKAIO, it has all the features Bliss has... There aren't too many extra features at the moment (especially if you don't have a slot-2 card) mostly menu changes and minor tweaks. However soon there will be more exciting features (slow-motion is hopefully going to be here quite soon).

anyone experiences problems with sav files - saves not recognized so you have to restart game from the beginning and/or strange "unknow savedata.sav" files in root dir?

besides me, another user on an italian forum has the same issues..

thanks again,

ciroops

Only to report, tried to use AKAIO on 2 Kingston 1gb microSD, both supposedly Made in Japan, tried on both:
FAT16 and FAT32, at each FAT tried to autogenerate the globalsettings.ini, failed, tried to manually create the globalsettings.ini using the oneeye's one, failed (and I've tried to load various themes, no sucess).

And thanks for releasing this custom kernel =) Maybe I'll get luck on next release.

I'm thinking this whole SD card thing prolly has to do with the initializing in the beginning.
Norm mentioned working on that, and looking at the code there are the initializing routines that are probably just copy pasted from AKBBS.

AK2's stuff is very optimized for different cards... you can imagine merging them into an AIO will create problems.

On the plus side, I am using my AK2 more now as I program stuff for it. Working on alternate loader support. Currently it doesn't "parse" the ROM being loaded into a new loader, it'll just launch the new loader (after patching it to support the "__aio" folder).

The patching is kinda fun, even if it's a useless feature in the long run. After all, it's better to just say "use this akmenu" and select a game and have it just load the game using the arm7/arm9 loaders of the selected akmenu. It's cool to be able to automatically make alternate akmenu's "__aio" compatible and load up for browsing and whatnot...

I'm just rambling after a coupla hours of wasted coding.

Something I forget to tell, in my situation it seems that the AIO recognize that it's running at a AKRPG instead of running in a AK2. It shows the option to search something in the NAND, microSD or Slot2.

just a thought, can akaio be made to view pictures?
akaio can play musics, can view texts. is there any possibilities for pictures?
cuz if it can, then monshell is no longer needed? (i have no idea what moonshell can do other than playing mp3s, reading txts, showing pics (.jpg, .png, etc)

Thanks for this release, looks like a great feature set over the "official" firmware.

I have become confused by some of the AIAIO/Bliss/Official information. Is AKAIO to become official? Or Bliss?

Neither AIO nor Bliss are likely to become the official menu, but the developers of the official menu have plans to incorporate some of the features into the official firmware.

From what I've been told, the Acekard team are merging Bliss' code into the official release (ohhh hell no) which means i won't be using the official loader unless i absolutely have too. I will probably add something like external loader support like bliss did, as it means i dont have to release an update everytime the official loader is updated.

Anybody else getting their save games erased? As I mentioned, earlier, ones I've been using for all the time I've had my RPG + Bliss' loader.

I'm trying to test it more extensively, so far games like Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Arkanoid, Hijouguchi EXIT, Trauma Center 2. All of which are categorized as 'save type unknown' so perhaps that has something to do with it?

Games with a save type detected seem to be working, I checked Donkey Kong Jungle Climber and Puzzle Climber because may be the only two I have on here right now that detected correctly.

Anyway, just be advised to back up your games before trying.
