So now I've modded the game from the cartridge with the trim.cia file of the game, and the modder i used gives options to save the modded file as. I chose the .cia option so I could play it using FBI, but when i see it on FBI it reads as .3ds file. I'm a bit confused as to what I'm supposed to do now.
Maybe save it as a 3ds file and use GodMode9 to convert it to a cia.

Following this guide https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-how-to-convert-3ds-files-into-cia-11-2-0-n3ds.454960/ on step 6 it says to navigate to the ncsd image options but it doesn't give me that option. I get CIA image options.
You want the converting 3ds to cia section in https://3ds.guide/godmode9-usage

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

He already has the file, he wants to convert it to cia.

I know this has been asked a million times. But I am having a hard time selling a modded 3ds. So more then likely I'll just remove the mod and sell to a local game shop, I do not have an original backup, as when I bought the system it had remains of an old cfw install, I do have the basic backup of the bl9 to Luma (I believe or is it al9) but what steps should I take now, with Luma, godmode, rosalina etc to uninstall the cfw.

Hi,

I bought a O3DSXL running 11.4 >:( from someone a couple of days ago and he informed me it used to have FS etc on but he has since done a factory reset. Upon further investigation I have found there is no SD card at all in it. However, I can load the Luma3DS 8.0 boot menu by holding select on start up and also access the Rosalina menu so I'm thinking he must have installed something to the internal memory!? I am now stumped as to what steps to take next!? Can anyone advise me what to do, I have a spare SD card to hand. Basically I need to know do I still have a way into it or is it beyond saving? I have tried 3ds.guide etc but none of it is specific to my situation.

Follow https://3ds.guide/uninstall-cfw but if you installed any custom system titles (like a different sleep screen, or anything to do with the keyboard, etc) you have to return it to normal first or the console will be bricked after uninstalling.

just get a new SD card,

just get the boot.3dsx from https://github.com/fincs/new-hbmenu/releases and put it on the SD card
Download the 7z from https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases and extract the boot.firm to the root of the SDthen follow https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup

and you good to go

Thanks for getting back to me. OK, and having whatever software appears to be on the internal memory won't make any difference? As in it won't cause a conflict having Luna on the new SD card and internal memory at the same time? Also do you mean just a standard SD card as everything I was reading for 11.4 mentioned having to have a NTRboot card!?

nah it wont make a different, you will be overwriting whats on the internal memory later
you dont need a ntrboot card, since you already gave boot9strap installed, just do the steps above, and you will be perfect

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
