So, I needed to replace my joystick on my 2ds because it was broken, I followed ifixit's guide on how to replace it. And after I finished and turned it on, it stopped working. It keeps going in the down-right position in all games, etc. Even if I disconnect the joystick it still does it. Is there a fix?
(First time poster so excuse me on my wording)

Maybe you should clarify what you mean by "ifixit's guide"? (If you can't post links, then please describe how the guide you looked at can be found on Google.)

There was nothing to relay clarify as ifixit guides are pretty much well known by those in the repair business for there detailed repaire guides. Also only took about a second to find the actual guide the op is talking about.

while i was examining the ribbon cable of the joystick. i saw it was cut on the edge. Could that be doing it?

Maybe. Do you see any of the circuit lines cut (on the ribbon cable)? Also doesn't explain why it is behaving the same way even after you disconnected the joystick..
yeah i know. but yeah, on the ribbon cable the cut is on some of the circuit lines

This is the old or the new joystick (or both)?
i didn't change the joystick button module, i only changed the joystick cap. its the button module that was already on the console

all i need to know is if its the ribbon cable that is doing it so i can just buy a new one, or if its something else. because i am able to disconnect it entirely and it will still have the same problem.

I think I found the solution. In this thread, this person had the same problem, and they fixed it with a joystick swap. I'm going to buy a new joystick and see if that was the problem https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-3ds-xl-endless-scrolling.603493/

That happens when the ribbon cable is damaged, not properly inserted on the socket, or there's no sufficient pressure to keep it attached (if it's the case you can apply eletrical tape to keep the ribbon cable pressed).
