I just discovered the Pokemon games, so I hope they go for a little time yet, a 3D would be great. I am an rpg addict, but avoided pokemon games until now, they seem better on the ds so I will not be retro gaming them; therefore it would be better for many new games ....more difficult and with cooler looking pokemon hopefully.

If you choose to be delusional and imagine that they did "something meaningful" throughout these few good years, it's your choice. I see the bigger picture. If anything, Pokemon recieved a higher colour palette and, OMG! undetailed 3D buildings a'la 20th century.

Man, you really seem to be get hard over this graphics thing. Black and White still got higher aggregate scores than Dark Dawn. So did HeartGold/SoulSilver. So did Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. And it's not like critics hate Golden Sun, the originals scored quite high.

I'm just pointing out that SOME studios put some effort into their sequels while some OTHER studios cash in on their franchise because kids love them.

Also, don't trust critics - they're usually IGNorant or GAYSpot about what they review. Just play a given game and decide whether you like it or not - you're on GBATemp, surely you have an flash cart to test games before you make your purchases.

Don't get me wrong - I'm the last person to be called a graphics whore. I can't keep a blind eye on a franchise that hasn't progressed for the last 11 years though.

I'm truly glad that the game mechanics work for ya, but still, it's a re-heated hamburger. I can't see the difference between playing an older and a recent Pokemon game at all except for different sprites and MORE DAMN POKEMON.

...Gotta Catch'em All became an euphemism - you'd have to be ill in the head to waste your time catching all those Pokemon when you will use 20-30 of'em since the rest is useless.

Game Freak is covering their own short-commings with content.

Fans want graphics tuned up to the console you're releasing the game for?
MORE NON-INNOVATIVE POKEMON!

Fans want a more detailed world, perhaps with involving side quests instead of "please bring me this item and I will give you this item." ?
MORE NON-INNOVATIVE POKEMON! THAT, AND A LARGER GAME WORLD WHERE YOU CAN CATCH YOUR NEW, DULL POKEMON!

Fans want a more involving multiplayer mode, perhaps co-op working similarily to Dragon Quest's one?
MORE... F-ING... CONTENT!

That's not how progress works, mate

Pokemon is like a really old popsicle - it's still fairly sweet, but it's been frozen for god only knows how long. For me, it reached its expirity date.

Well it's not like aggregate scores are made by the ever-shitty IGN (which I agree, is shit) or Gamespot (which I never found their reviews to be THAT bad) alone. They're from tons and tons of sites. Even then, I played Dark Dawn and I couldn't find it compelling compared to the originals (which I never found to be extraordinary anyway).

I think you just really fucking hate Pokemon because everyone fucking hates Pokemon and you decided to jump on the hate train. They still provide a consistently content-filled and easily approachable portable RPG that can be quite fun. I never saw what was wrong with that. Cashing in? Maybe. Still fun? Definitely.

They'll stop making em when people in Japan stop buying it. Pokemon is much more than the game. There is the CCG, the arcade machines tied to the CCG, merchandising and anime.

They keep making games to keep that machine well oiled and running. Once people stop buying into the 'ecosystem' then the games will stop. Not the other way around.

i never know that there was a pokemon green

Yeah, it was only released in Japan. That's why one of the gba remakes of the Kanto region was called Pokemon LeafGreen.
so only pkm blue, red and yellow came out in europe?
Yes, and only Red, Green and Yellow were released in Japan.

I don't see Pokemon ending any time soon, it's still fun and addicting, and it gets a ton of sales. I doubt they're going to stop soon.

I'm far from a Pokemon hater

My clock on Pokemon Yellow friggin stopped - outta spots for digits.

I LIKE Pokemon, I LIKE the concept behind it, I LIKE the game mechanics. I don't like the direction it took though.

I don't like selling the exact same game over and over again, these should be called mission packs or patches, not actual "games". Damn, if the DS was DLC-compatible, they probably WOULD be DLC's.

I'm not saying that the game doesn't have a "fun factor". It IS fun. I just refuse to buy any Pokemon games until Game Freak gets off their lazy butts and does something about the issues they know all too well since Platinum-Times.

I'm not a hater - a hater hates without a good reason. I gave you a truckload of arguments in our discussion, whether you accept them or not is your piece of candy.

Except there not the exact same game. The games are similar, but there are noticeable differences. And it's still addictive and fun, so I'm fine with it.

Also, if you decided on what the next Pokemon game was like, what new ideas would you add.

I don't think a new 40+ hour adventure can be considered "DLC worthy". The gameplay is the same but the games themselves are different.

You're focusing too much on the battle system and not enough on the games themselves.

Sure. There are noticable differences. Like, between an apple and an apple - y'know, one's bigger and one's smaller? One is more red than the other? One has more juice and the other has less juice?

...they're apples, both of'em. Deal with it.

I know why Pokemon froze in a coma-like state years, years ago. Because of its fans. They seem to just lap it up, regardless of what's released, completely blind to the persisting problems, even HAPPY about what they get. It's the hardcore fans that allow the developers to do hardly any work and call it a new game... and it makes me feel really sad. It's the love for Pokemon that's killing it.

If you really want a critic to give you a review of Pokemon, listen to Zero Punctuation. You'll understand my standpoint.

HERE.

That's not really a good example. The games themselves are quite different outside of the battle system.

I'm sure if any HUGE change came to the Pokemon battle system fans would complain that they ruined the essence of the series. If its kept the same a few guys like you just bitch for the sake of bitching. I think they'll take the later.

You're not addressing any of the points we're really making, you're just going "Well, it's the same game!" and then spewing more hate speech.

You have to first MAKE a point for me to adress. So far you haven't. All you said is that it's fun and gives you a new story to play, which, for me, is DLC content, not a new game.

I'm afraid that I am unable to talk with you, simply because you're too easily pleased.

I'm not sticking just to the battle system. NOTHING changed. At all. I'm glad that the buildings made the transition from square-ish sprites to rather undetailed 3D models. Please, carry on with the changes. Eventually we'll get a good game.

I don't really consider Pokemon much different than my old addiction MtG. The system is pretty robust so there's not much need for 'change' per say. Magic adds more cards and versions. Pokemon comes out with different Pokemons on the hand held. The CCG on both sides is identical in that respect too. If you don't like Pokemon then you're not going to understand why people like it so much.

The reality is that just like Magic, its the most popular because it was the first one to do it and become big.

The Pokemon battle system works fine for what it needs to do. There's actually a lot more variation in the CCG game that you see on the hand held side if you're interested.

This is the biggest epiphany I've seen in like forever. Probably because I'm also a MtG addict. The difference is I haven't bought a Pokemon game since the GBA era yet I've spent hundreds of dollars on MtG.

EDIT:

You're right nothing has changed.

Outside of new Pokemon.

And new battle types (recently the inclusion of like 3v3 battles and such)

And changes to the core gameplay elements (like the Special split in Gold/Silver, the Physical/Special split in Gen 4, etc).

And new continents.

With new trainers.

With new gym leaders.

With a new Elite 4/Champion.

And improved graphics (They still keep the essence of their original graphics but there is improvement, 3D graphics would just honestly be a waste of time).

Otherwise, exactly the same!

Like I said before; if you decided what path the series would lead to, what would you choose? Or do you not have any ideas of your own?

And the games are very different outside of the battles.
