The WiiU can handle at least 2TB.
WiiU mode uses it's own HDD formatting type that is incompatible with vWii, so you'll need 2 drives [source needed]
You can use pretty much any USB drive you want, though one with a y-cable is recommended. Nintendo also has recommendations,(see link on right) but I wouldn't bet on them being any better than other drives.

use the search bar or google is sometimes faster as opening a new threat ...

USB is both forward and backward compatible.

The Wii U is USB 2.0 and will work with 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1 but the Wii U will only have USB 2.0 speed when a USB 3.0 or 3.1 device is hooked up.

Whereas, on the Xbox One and PS4, they are USB 3.0 so USB 3.1 devices will only work at USB 3.0 speed and USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices will work at 1.1 or 2.0 speeds.

for USB drives, the Wii U can only use 2.0 TB max for hard drive sizes.

Larger drives can be used but any space above 2.0 TB will be wasted and cannot be used for anything.

To be honest it's really hard to fully fill a 2T HDD with Wii U. 1T is already enough. And with the USB 2.0 port it will take forever to move data if you change mind later and want to use that 2T drive elsewhere. Each Wii U disk can hold a maximum of 25G of data, while the average size of games are probably around 10G or even smaller.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And all external HDDs need Y cable. The only explanation is if the drive has external power.

2Tb is a bit overkill. I think I have a solid 20% of ALL eShop games (25% indy, 50% Nintendo first party, 25% AAA third party) and it only takes up 350GB. Unless you're planning to buy every single game there's really no use for it.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
