What is the possibility that a SNES romhack almost broke my Wii U?

Just so I know. I was playing a hack called Super Mario RPG Armageddon on the Wii Retroarch on vWii when the console simply turned itself off and wouldn't turn on. Took it out of the outlet a few times, waited a while, nothing worked. I later removed the HDMI cable which is connected to a converter which manages to plug it in my CRT, but still no dice. A few minutes later, however, as I was showing my brother the system was dead, it finally powered on.

I attached a video showcasing what was happening before. I believe it was, in all honesty, the HDMI converter, as it needed power to work and was pushing it through the Wii U via the HDMI cable.

But just to be sure... is there any probability at all that the romhack I was playing caused this behaviour? Or was it all just a coincidence? I use my Wii U a lot for retro stuff and homebrew so I'd rather just ask it.

There's next to zero chance. The only way I could see it being related is if you installed a channel (ie, an inject) that wasn't meant for vWii. But the Wii U would still power on in that scenario.

It sounds like it was either the converter or that the system was just running too hot. It might be worth opening it up and cleaning it out a bit. Even if the fans look okay from the vents, there could still be dust caked elsewhere inside.

Oh, and you should check that none of the contacts in the USB and HDMI ports are dislodged. This happens more often with USB ports, but when the contacts come loose they can easily short out the other contacts when you push something into the port. So, if you were messing with the cables and it suddenly started working again, maybe a shorted pin just moved back into place at some point.

It's probably unlikely, but still worth checking.
