Is this true (the comments about weakness() after the massive PR from late December?
It wasn’t really true before honestly. He’s being a snob. Some games have minor issues but the audio emulation is hardly weak. And not everything needs to be hyper accurate. It’s a bit absurd that people constantly expect that out of emulators for low powered devices

If you never had a Genesis you probably won't be bothered by things like the weird sign spinning sound when clearing a Sonic 2 stage. Or the odd sphere gobbling sound in Sonic 3 special stages. Something in the bassline makes Mega Turrican actively unpleasant to listen to and kind of ruins a great soundtrack. If you got a New 3DS then GenesisPlusGX will take care of all these audio problems. Unfortunately Mega Turrican has some occasional minor slowdowns and therefore audio crackle, so pick your poison. Neither is really a horrible experience but there's no reason to ignore alternative solutions when available.

The alternate solutions run like hot ass

Try Batman Returns, Thunderstrike/Thunderhawk, Soulstar. Yeah 90% of the library didn't use the 3D capabilities hardly at all, but if you want those kind of games, GenesisPlus can struggle.

How to make it run? the last build posted here simply didn't do anything when i tried to load any file from my commander keen folder

There are a few options.

You could just open retroarch and without any content, and just start the core. This gives you a dos prompt with your SD mounted as C: drive.

Or load any content as usual, navigate to the commander keen folder and just open e.g. keen1.exe.
( in which case the current folder will be mounted as C: )

Both options work fine on my end, but i've manually created my own playlist and use that.

I'm not sure why you're having issues loading content, old3DS maybe?

Sorry for the wait, blueMSX assets should be available soon.

Retroarch without dosbox loaded, already has ~103mb ram used. The official build uses about 2mb less.
Loading keen1 results in 134mb used (on new3DS).

The old3DS doesn't have the ram available for running current dosbox-svn core.

I was curious if there was a build for the TurboGrax-CD that allowed the use of .chd. I know there is an option for this with PSX but last time I tried with bubbles2k16 build and the retroarch cores you needed to use .cue/.bin files to run them and I'd prefer not having to convert a file to larger file format to use it on the 3DS if possible.

Yes. Mednafen core has this support. Works great on N3DS.

thanks for the insight, i'll stop trying then.

Why does it use so much ram? Like for real I was playing commander keen a couple of days ago in my laptop with 16mbs of ram. It doesn’t make sense to use an additional 30 for dosbox with keen loaded. Or even 100 to begin with. It seems kind of counter intuitive

The latest nightlies have .chd support for Picodrive. Picodrive has seen substantial edits in the past few months, and to my ears anyway, is now indistinguishable to Genesis Plus, but with far better performance.

By the when was the last official RetroArch (3DS) release? I forgott.

It feels like almost a year. Don't know about that feeling.

Because I keep catching myself waiting for an update, rather installing a new one. Even though currently I'm on an pretty old nightly.
