Cyberpunk 2077 has been removed from the PlayStation Store

cyberpunk44.jpg

As if CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 woes couldn't get any worse, the game has been pulled from the PlayStation Store. Sony Interactive Entertainment released a statement via their website announcing that the game has been removed until further notice, and anyone who wishes to have their game refunded will be able to do so.

SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been the subject of controversy since launch day, with many customers reporting framerate, loading, and game-breaking bug issues on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. CD Projekt Red themselves even issued an apology for the game's poor performance on last-gen consoles, and promised future updates to improve performance on these issues. As of right now, there's no word on when the game will return to the PlayStation store, or when refunds will be sent out for those who purchased a digital copy.

As if all the delays for the game weren't bad enough, the fucked launch of the game goes to show that those delays weren't even worth waiting for. The predictable and boring rhetoric of "I'd rather have a delayed game over a buggy and broken game" definitely doesn't fit in here.

The bigger they are the harder they fall... Their marketing hyped it too much and they management went greedy with the response and (even with delays) not enough time for devs to fix everything.
Now their hype is working against them.

All this confirms to me is how much damaging the idea of patches are to the gaming industry. Seriously, how many more fucking games will have shit like day one patches, lack of content, and just sheer incompetent releases? It will be about damn time until we get AAA games that are actually complete and 100% functional at launch these days.

People are conveniently forgetting that the developers have been under lockdown and worked on the project remotely for nearly a year (effectively since March) - it's hard to prime a project for release when you're stuck at home. I've been enjoying it thoroughly on the PS5, but there's no denying that the game crashes a lot. I hope it gets fixed because it's one of the best titles in the genre and its failings are purely technical.

Good. Remove it from Gen 8 and stop beating around the bush. The consoles are terrible for this title. Piss and moan all you want. They're absolutely awful by today's standards.

Thing is, people keep blaming the devs. But I wouldn't say it's their fault. Everyone kept complaining about the delays. Well, here's what you get when you rush developers and complain about delays. The blame is really on those who complained about the delays.

the people complaining to release it aren’t in control though. They can scream and shout all they want

the game has been in development for years. The released product was rushed but really doesn’t seem like years of effort for the end result (IMO)

Something shady about all this 2077 dragged out hype. How did no one let the cat out of the bag even a few months ago this game was a pile of garbage ?

one of the industry’s most coveted secrets

Probably because the version we have now is indefinitely different than what they may or may not have had 7 years ago? The only thing CDPR did wrong was give any release date. This title is clearly one that should have skipped Gen 8 and released when it was ready. Hell, they shouldn't have even announced the title until they had their ducks in a row. It sucks, but at least it wasn't in development hell being tossed from one developer to the other.

Something I see frequently pointed out is that the shareholders/investors piled on pressure to release this title so they can get their money. It makes sense in the business world. It's all about the Benjamin's. Fun fact, they'll fix this shit quicker than Bethesda admitted that ES VI is still using the same garbage engine. There's nothing shady here and the conspiracies are mounting. It's... Sad..

As a counterpoint, it's CDPR who kept announcing the dates and hyping people for preorders instead of just saying "when it's done" and keeping it in the oven. Overwork and poor planning are still to blame here, and it's silly to blame the audience for being understandably upset about broken release promises.

This game should not have been released on base consoles. Unfourtunately, Xbox's Smart Delivery prevented this game from actually being canned for the last gen consoles. It's clear that CDPR intentionally cut out game design features to manage stress on the One/PS4 CPU's, as this video shows.

I won't deny the game has issues for many users but the whole thing seems like a huge over-reaction to me. So the game isn't perfect. I get that you're disappointed. But people have been throwing toys out of the pram and claiming conspiracy so hard it's making Trump look calm and collected. People these days are so thin-skinned. A video game has a few technical issues that will likely be patched out over the next few weeks and they all scream it's a 'betrayal' like they have any notion of what that word means. They sold a subpar product. Either get a refund or wait for the patch. This isn't some personal attack, they're not out to get you, it's not the end of the world. So unbunch your panties and get some perspective already.

Long dev cycle, so many drastic changes even from the 2018 E3 presentation... clearly they were trying to live up to the hype of following up on Witcher 3, plus all the attention that people built over the years for this title.

CLEARLY some very serious managerial/production mistakes were made, resources were reshuffled and the game entered an existential spiral. In the upcoming years we will get to hear more about this as people leave the studio and become able to talk.

Does this mean that we can finally kill the "A delayed game is eventually good..." quote?
I really can't think of a time where that quote has even applied to games that have been delayed repeatedly.
Well the thing is that this did need one more delay. To sort out more of the bugs and to have the PS5/XBSX version ready. And then the PS4/XB1 version needed even more time after that before launching.
