Classic Metal Gear games are hitting the PC platform once more, as Konami has confirmed today. The original Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance are now available on modern computers through GOG. Not only that, but a handful of retro Konami games such as Castlevania 1, 2, and 3, along with the original Contra and Super C have also launched on GOG for PC. The classic Castlevania & Contra collection will cost $5.99, and so will Metal Gear, while both Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 are priced at $9.99 each. According to Konami, these games offer better graphics, new options, quick saves, and even new gameplay modes.

You are Snake, a government agent on a mission to regain control of a secret nuclear weapons base from terrorist hands.

Now the international best-selling PlayStation game comes to the PC with better graphics, added features, and new gameplay modes! Unlike anything you've played before, Metal Gear Solid introduces a new genre of gaming where ninja-like stealth and cool head are your best weapons for survival

  • VR Missions Game included!
  • Optional 1st person play mode thrusts you into the action from the moment you suit up.
  • Multiple game controller support and improved quick-save function for ease of play

I was not a PC gamer back then I had thought Subsistance which is like 3 Ultimate Edition came to PC, but that may be the greatest game to never come to PC then Snake Eater is so good. At least play it on PCSX 2 emulator if nothing else.

3 was never ported to PC. Only 1, 2, and 5 of the main series are on PC.
Peace Walker isn't on PC either

Also this whole thing seems remarkably minimal effort. They're just rereleasing old ports and not even both of the MSX games. But I guess it is Konami, at least they aren't trying to pull the HD collection out of people's consoles or whatever

Those links all just take me to the search function as if what I was looking for doesn't exist. I thought the whole deal with GOG was that they didn't do stupid region shit.

Edit: Yep, using VPN to another country displays the titles. GOG or Konami has put some nice region locking with these games.

I know most people aren't going to think about the first Metal Gear but it is actually a lot of fun if you get it same for Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. You get upgrades like parachutes, keycards it really was Metal Gear Solid but it in 2D it was pretty genius for two 80's games that usually didn't have much thought put behind them. You can play them on MSX emulator. They're pretty hard having save states kinda helps.

Do not mistake the NES games for these they are terrible ports.

There are some countries that have regional issues with GOG, but it's the fault of governmental regulations and licensing issues, it's not something GOG can help. I know Germany, Japan, and China all have regulation issues with some games that GOG lists, and I think there are a couple others as well.

You can just use a VPN if you really want them though.

Region locking is just a dick move in this day and age, I'd just continue to bypass it just to piss Konami off.

I'm very worried at Konami doing anything at all with Metal Gear. At this point they should just stay with pachinkos and sell all their IPs to any other company.

They already tried Metal Gear Survive and it's a dumpster fire disgrace to the series (I don't even consider it part of the series of course).

Rumor is they are going to remake Metal Gear Solid 1 for PC/PS5. If it's a good remake great, I would be nervous about it though.

But will it be a remake or a port with some updated graphics? Either way we loose because a port will always be buggy and done with minimal effort, breaking the original feel and atmosphere. If it's a remake they'll fuck it up even more (anyone remember The Twin Snakes?).
The only true way to preserve these games is to release an emulator with the ISO built-in, you can update the graphics and still keep it as original as possible.

There was nothing wrong with Twin Snakes it was a highly regarded remake. You may not have personally liked it I'm sure you have reasons but it was not a terrible remake.

Metacritic 85 user score 8.9 https://www.metacritic.com/game/gamecube/metal-gear-solid-the-twin-snakes

I do personally like the original a little bit better but Twin Snakes was not a disaster by any means.
