Xbox Game Pass is coming to PC, Microsoft also bringing 20+ of their first party titles to Steam

XGP_PC-Announce_Comp_HERO-hero (1).jpg

Microsoft has made a pretty major reveal, prior to its E3 briefing. The company will be bringing its Xbox Game Pass service to PC, with over 100 available titles to play at launch. Developers and publishers such as Deep Silver, Bethesda, SEGA, Paradox, and more will be partnering up with Microsoft to allow their games to be played by PC players with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Just like with the console version of the subscription service, first-party Microsoft titles will be playable on launch, which includes content from the newly acquired inXile and Obsidian Entertainment. Those that enjoy using the Microsoft Store will be able to make use of the service's 20% off Windows game purchases that are offered in the Xbox Game Pass library.

In an effort to give players more choice, Microsoft will also be bringing over 20 of its first-party games to the PC gaming storefront, Steam. Gears of War 5, Age of Empires, and over 20 more titles will be brought to Steam, following the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC.

More information is slated for Xbox's E3 press conference, so we'll find out specific details and pricing in just a few weeks.

Two years ago, we launched Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One, and since then we’ve seen how valuable a curated library of high-quality games can be for players and game developers alike. It offers a great way to discover and play your next favorite game. We researched whether a similar opportunity exists for PC players and PC game developers, and we believe that it does. We also considered the importance of bringing something new and additive to the PC gaming ecosystem, and we believe that we can. So, we designed a service specifically for the needs of PC gamers and PC game developers. It’s called Xbox Game Pass, just like the original, but it’s a new experience that we are building together with the PC community.

Xbox Game Pass for PC will give players unlimited access to a curated library of over 100 high-quality PC games on Windows 10, from well-known PC game developers and publishers such as Bethesda, Deep Silver, Devolver Digital, Paradox Interactive, SEGA, and more. And just as we committed on the console, it is our intent to include new games from Xbox Game Studios in Xbox Game Pass for PC the same day as their global release, including titles from newly acquired studios like Obsidian and inXile. We’re working with over 75 developers and publishers to bring PC content to the service and we’ll ensure the library remains curated and full of great PC titles across a variety of genres, with new games added every month.

Xbox Game Pass for PC members will also receive discounts in the Microsoft Store on Windows of up to 20% on games currently in the library and up to 10% off related game DLC and add-ons.

We look forward to sharing more at E3, including the great games coming to the library, as well as more details on when and how you’ll experience the new Xbox Game Pass service for PC gamers.

@pedro702 MS is not overly worried about their hardware sales as their focus seems to be more on the service of Xbox in itself (Xbox game pass, Xbox live etc.) Yeah everyone got a PS4 for those reasons on that I will agree but will that last another gen or 2? Cloud gaming and gaming as a service is going to be a real thing in less then 10 years and I think MS and building the bedrock of that now.
i dont think cloud gaming will go anywhere imo it will exist here and there but it will take decades so the lag issue isnt a thing on a worldwide scale.Stuff needing pitch perfect inputs like FPS and Fighters will always suffer big time, sure you can play single player games that arent too frame dependent easily.

The thing is if the xbox hardware dies then you just put the brand in the mud, imagine next gen xbox two or whatever they call it flops big time like under 10 million units, just the console name will be signal of failure and not something to be proud off, becuase if xbox dies then what exactly do you have?

microsoft exclusives are very few and very far inbetween and if you want to play third party games there will be countless services i bet each one with their own exclusives like google one and then sony one and so on.

As long as it doesn't have Microsoft's shitty DRM. I have an Xbox One and I often get kicked out of games when it all of a sudden thinks I don't own it. I've lost a lot of progress because of it.

I'm confused. What the hell was I subscribed to if not the game pass that gave me access to a bunch of titles on PC? Anyway, more games, and especially big ones going to steam, sounds awesome. I unsubbed because right now it only really has Sea of Thieves which is pretty dead, but that's very enticing news.

How many people really have their xboxes on montiors and PCs on TVs.

Call me when there's gamepass and MS exclusives on PS5, that is the real death knell for xbox hardware.

I'm not sure if English is your first language but I don't think you know what this is. Hell I don't have a clue what you even think it is. It's just a bunch of games that are on xbone will now also be on PC. I thought it was pretty obvious really.
Also i'll let you in on a little secret (((Microsoft owns Windows and Xbox, holy shit I know right, freaky. They're expanding their market not crashing it)))

Hmm, good to see Microsoft is playing ball more.
They used to almost be like Epic, just without being a jerk about it anyway.
Making a walled garden and such, Games for Windows Live and then the Windows Store on windows 8 and how Valve was worried they'd lock out Steam that way.
I find it ironic how Epic is trying to do the same thing but worse when Microsoft failed at it twice, caused a lot of issues and now are finally just working with Steam.

I've been subscribed to the Game Pass on PC for some time, it keeps reseting to a dollar everytime I let it expire then I subscribe again for a buck. Mostly just to play Forza and ReCore, other MS exclusives.
They've been silently adding non exclusive games though not much but I thought it was nice Marvel VS Capcom Infinite was added not long ago.
Still rather sparse for PC but it's about time they started adding more games to that.
I guess they just wanted to make it seem new or something.
Still nice they are finally getting their act together on PC, more so with Epic causing trouble right now, we kinda need this.

I'd hope they could bring some Xbox/Xbox360 emulation over too, I'd happily pay for it or some older games since emulation is kinda tough xbox wise.

Next gen is basically around the corner and I doubt they wouldn't have backwards compatibility too. Really no point in getting a Xbox One at this point regardless of this.

Microsoft just casually shitting all over Epic's plans to force people over to EGS through exclusivity. I love it. :yay:
Just be glad Game Pass isn't an Epic exclusive. :P

DAMN! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

With Yakuza and other formerly Sony-exclusive (think Devil May Cry pre-Xbox 360, and the Final Fantasy games, which, past XII, were playable on emulators before/during that generation, and now the developments on RPCS3 and the very minimal, but exciting potential of the possibilities offered by Orbital) games on Steam now, I think, as a PC gamer, it's finally time to celebrate! To let our cups overflow with praises to our Lord and Savior GabeN!

With Xbox and Xbox 360 emulation also developing, (though not as fast or as impressively as the PS3 on the latter last I checked, IDK, outside of some exclusives on the Xbox consoles, I was never all that compelled enough to get one of their systems, ESPECIALLY with the Red Ring of Death that was the 360 back when I initially bought a PS3 in 2011 and the MANY broken consoles one of my older brothers had to send to Microsoft or, in one case, DIY repair himself) and the potential of Proton (something that I admittedly have yet to give a shot in my busy life), I think the future may be looking bright, provided that everyone collaborates on supporting the open source community. I've always wanted to switch to Linux given the nature of what it is as opposed to Windows (not to mention saving me an additional $100+ on every PC I've built), but in terms of gaming, it was a crapshoot before. Whether Proton would make me sing praises of the future or not is something that I'm looking forward to discovering, in addition to the very idea of Microsoft games that were exclusive to their platforms being run on Linux of all things!

Sooo, just for clarification, you're telling me that, for 10 €/month i can play a shitload of exclusive xbox one and (probably) 360 games on my pc? And, question, once i "cancel", if the game is already in my pc can i load it if i forget about the online caracteristics of it?

I must buy a better pc.

I'm interested to see how the pass will work on the Steam side... Will they have some sort if integration that will make the titles unavailable if your pass expires? Microsoft working with Steam... Nice.

It's nice to see Microsoft making these moves lately. I just think about the disasterous xbone launch but they've redeemed themselves this generation and have really built up the Xbox brand.

In an effort to give players more choice, Microsoft will also be bringing over 20 of its first-party games to the PC gaming storefront, Steam.

More like "Microsoft admits no one uses their shitty Windows store and most people will rather not buy their games if they are not on steam.

Come on let's be real here, this was not to "give players choice". Why would microsoft want to put their games on steam and give a cut to to them when they already had their own store front? LOL

So they're basically giving up on Xbox at this point. Wonder what the point of the next xbox will be at this point...
honestly, i think its only going to be for the people who want to play the games but either dont want to or dont know how to use a pc well. Consoles are as user-friendly as it gets.

If this is anything like the xbox version, would be nice to remind that when they say 100+ it's more like 195 or so.

Service itself is a no-brainer and a great selling point for any platform in which it is available.

YES. No more relying on Microsoft Store. I hope the next Forza is on Steam. Jesus, having to reinstall Horizon 4 after a Windows reinstall is a nightmare, even with a decent internet connection. Why they don't allow you to backup or link to an install of the game on another hard drive is beyond me (like you can with Steam Uplay, Origin, etc, just re-add the game folders/libraries, and boom, there's your installed games).
