Telltale Games' titles will soon be removed from GOG, Tales from the Borderlands delisted on Steam

Almost a year has passed since the tragic announcement of Telltale Games closing its doors for good. Even after eight months, the studio's closure is still having an impact on the industry, specifically digital storefronts, in this case, as GOG has informed its users that any Telltale titles that haven't already been delisted will soon be. On May 27th, anything that Telltale developed will no longer be available to purchase on GOG. Following a quiet delisting of Tales from the Borderlands today on Steam, this may also be the case for Valve's storefront as well. No mention has been made towards digital availability on consoles yet. The following titles will be affected:
  • The Wolf Among Us
  • Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Hector: Badge of Carnage
  • Batman: A Telltale Game Series
  • Sam and Max: Save the World
  • Same and Max: Beyond Time and Space
  • Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People
  • Puzzle Agent 1 and 2
As is normally the case with delisted titles, if you've already purchased them you'll still be able to download them from your library.

I'm guessing that CD-key re-sellers will make a fortune on keys from collectors, IF they find out of this in time AND choose to up their prices before the collectors rush and grab it while it's cheap. (Last time I saw, a steam key for Tales from the Borderlands was 2euros for a steam key).
Checked out now, the cheapest was 11euros, so re-sellers already upped the prices a bit.
Best example of re-sellers getting big money from delisted steam games is Dark Souls PTD (the original before the remaster), starting from a whopping 170euros for a key and 70euros for a gift. And FYI there were listings for 200-300+ euros too, which have all been sold out, so yeah...a poor collector got broke and a re-seller got a bit richer.

That's not how it works, though. Licensing and copyright is a good thing. They just should have aimed for a broader period. This stuff happens, but characters, properties and other material usually involve a lot of work. So, it makes sense to keep them tied to the creator or owners. I agree they can suck (Looking at you Pitchford you piece of sh....) but if they didn't exist where would we be? Don't say a better place..

No, I won't say that, but licensing issues are just a joke for these situations. Company goes to crap and their games go down with them, digital games are a bane on gaming society, esp. when they never get renewed or picked up by another company. Physical games are superior in this regard.

I get that most of these are licenses of some kind and there's always legal nonsense involved with those, but is Puzzle Agent not an original series? I remember playing that on the iPhone way back when.

Lets not forget that Tell Tale games had a formula that worked once and every game after that was cookie cutter the same with different franchises.

Chances are that the games are only temporarily de-listed so that they can be re-uploaded by the current holders of the IP rights, we've seen this happen before. One or two will probably slip between the cracks, but I suspect we'll see them back on storefronts soon enough.
