Hacking Question Updating from 4.0.1 to 7.0.1?

I have 4.0.1. with instaled atmosphere but it became way too old, so could someone help me with following questions:

-Should I upgrade to 7.0.1. or 8.0.1., i.e. which one makes more sense?
-Should I upgrade Atmosphere first, or update to new fw before doing that?
-Should I make new nand backup after updating fw?
-To upgrade atmosphere, is it enough just to overwrite current folders on my microsd?
-Is there some good manual how to update fw/atmosphere and properly use choidujournx?

If you don't use themes then 8.0.1 is fine.

Upgrade Atmosphere first.

I don't make new nand backups, but you can do. I would keep your original one made before you hacked your switch though.

I don't overwrite folders, just in case, I have no idea if it makes a difference. I move the folders to a subdirectory, so if atmosphere fails to launch I can easily just go back to the previous working version.

There isn't really a wrong way to use choidujournx, if it gives any kind of error then stop what you're doing and ask. Don't just carry on thinking everything will be fine.

Just to ask- when updating atmosphere, should I just go to sdsetup, download again full package (cosmos, goldleaf, hekate etc) and just overwrite old versions on my microsd? Or should I just download atmosphere part without updating utilities goldleaf/tinfoil) nor extras (hekate)?
