That's unfortunate! I will have to play P3P on another device then
Thank you!
If it helps, pretty much any phone or PC will run the emulator and the base settings. I have an old 2013 netbook that runs pretty much everything but God of War at full speed at x1, no filters. It’s not as nice as getting to use the game pad but at least you could enjoy your game.

I just wanted an update that would improve the perfomance of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep on my Wii U

I recently finished KH1 on my PS2, I'm almost finishing Chain of Memories on my Wii U by Retroarch, I've already tenhoo RE: Coded and 358/2 Days on Wii U but wanted to play Birth By Sleep before, play till it turns well , but when there are many enemies on the screen it is almost impossible to play.

I still hope that the developer will see how many people are still waiting for an update to the PPSSPP on Wii U and reconsider, in my opinion it's worth far more than developing for the PSClassic Mini.

what do you mean wii update? Do you mean there is a PSP emulator for wii that was just released?

I take it this emulator has been abandoned? I wouldn't be surprised. every time someone creates a emu, they typically release one beta version and never bother to update it and then drop it before it ever gets to one final release.

Since the Retroarch thread is getting polluted with the PPSSPP alpha release discussion i though it would be a neat idea to take the conversation to a new thread, because yes, PPSSPP is now a thing on Wii U

This thread is for general discussion and testing/reporting. Current build is basically a Alpha with a lot to do, but it still works quite nice... mostly.

You can download the emulator from here. Every new version will be added to the list.

First Build
v1.5.4-987-g30c3fd63e
1.5.4-992-gc82811f17
v1.5.4-998-g08f26439c
Next build (no new build version)

If you'd rather have is as an app in your Wii U menu, here's a forwarder by @cucholix

We'll use a form to report our findings and i'll update the OP as soon as i can. This is the data we'll use

Firmware:
SD type and Class:
Homebrew launcher version:
Emulator version:
Game:
Non default settings:
Issues observed:

Any report will be put in the compatibility list, or you could ask @Lia for permission to edit it yourselves. If you're going to do it, BE CIVIL, do not post erroneous or false reports.

Compatibility list. Thanks to @Lia

Also, if you can try to post photos, if you think they are noteworthy. It may help ironing some issues.

F.A.Q.

If this can run, why don't we have a PSX emulator?

By a myriad of reasons, but basically PSSPP already has a Dynarec to work with, but Beetle PSX no. This question isn't abut PPSSPP so let's move on

Does PPSSPP for Wii U support any controller aside of the DRC/Wii U Gamepad?

No, it doesn't

Will it?

Maybe? The emulator is in a very early state and the main objective is to get it running as perfectly as possible. Anything else will come after that

But i don't like the Gamepad!

You're missing the PSP XL experience then. Try it, it's pretty good

Does it run insert PSP game here?

It may run, and if it doesn't, give it time, it WILL run

Does it run eboot.pbp/PSX games?

Not even the original, more advanced PC version of PPSSPP can run PSX games, and the development team isn't interested on it whatsoever. Sorry but PSX emulation on Wii U will have to wait.

Can i load games via USB instead of SD Card?

Yes, you can, but take in account that the Wii U OS will try to format whatever USB device you use on the spot, so if you're going to use a USB device plug it in on the Homebrew launcher or directly on the PPSSPP menu. Also bear in mind that this isn't still very stable, so you may have issues.

I want the developer to implement X feature!

I'll be bold here: Leave the developer alone, he already has his hands full making the emulator work. Let's not push things

And that's it, let's enjoy ourselves and help in the development of this project however we can.

framerates? for example vice city or liberty city?

Strange how this even exists, with PSX and N64 having so much trouble..

Only got KH BBS running, and even that crashed right afte the title screen.
(Might consider trying some Crisis Core, as these are really the only PSP games I ever cared about...)
I suppose I could try loading some savestates from my Androids PPSSPP rendition, but I can't really be bothered.

My thoughts exactly.

If required, tons of options for PSP already exist anyways. (Even Anroid phones run it somewhat justifyable)

The WiiU does a good enough job with Wii U, Wii, GC, N64, PSX, NDS, SNES, GBA, NES, GB/C games already.
Can't really see the need for PPSSPP all that much. Other emulators would be way more interesting.

(Sadly the WiiU is the unbeloved Nintendo stepchild.)

I dunno about all that.. I think the wiiu is a hidden gem.. The all around Nintendo fans console .. & a hacked one has plenty to offer... It just couldn't compete with ps3 & Xbox 360 at the time ... Psp is great on mobile . But unfortunately poop on wiiu

That's weird... I was able to play Kingdom Hearts on Wii U's PPSSPP without any problems, but when there are a lot of enemies on the screen the frame rate is horrible, are you sure you used the latest version?

I finished MegaMan Maverick Hunter X and Power Up on Wii U PPSSPP, it was great to be able to play on TV on GamePad lying on the couch, I was also able to play Project Diva although I fumbled a lot with the buttons.

I hoped there might be an update that would improve game compatibility (maybe even better frame rate in Kingdom Hearts), but apparently the developer totally abandoned this project. the Nintendo Switch is still extremely expensive here in Brazil, so the Wii U these days is still my main console, just a pity the homebrew scene is pretty dead.

PPSSPP 1.9.0 is out. Any chance we can have the sourcecode of that compiled for WiiU?

And/or the source of this alpha build?

    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze

    so..... yeah

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
